Default Amp rack ideas?

Any howto's or any pics of custom dual amp racks for the stock subwoofer location out there?

I can't find much other than shop jobs. I have two amps, a PPI PC2300.2 and a PPI PCX1500.

You should put a plexiglass cove over that instead and maybe have some lights to enhance that piece of art work... Any problems like rattling? Tips to offer on installs?

this is how I mounted my amps in the stock sub location. Nothing real fancy, just mounted on a flat board with black carpet from the auto parts store...

helping dry-time w/ heatgun

template for final shelf cut / test-fit using masonite

shelf using 1/2" MDF

i have a JL Audio 1000/1 mounted onto this board and plan on fabbing another shelf up-side-down using the factory brackets you see and a pair of L angle brackets screwed to 1/4" MDF to mount my 2x front chan. amps above the sub amp. my only concern is heat... i might very well be moving the 2x front ch amps (yes you read that right lol) to the other side and sacrificing some or all of the "glove box" cubby

doing this project now. Wondering where the best place to ground your amp is in there.

i put a nice big overkill ground-lug through the sheetmetal next to the belt bracket. there was a 3x thickness wall pre-drilled (i had to SLIGHTLY enlarge the hole to fit a stinger part there).

For those people that put the amps in the stock sub location, any heat issues?

shouldn't be any if you have the sub cover panel (or another vent). there's a lot of room back there.

then again i just upgraded again and might be stuffing 3 or 4 amps somewhere, i doubt i can run more than the 2 w/o major heat issues because of proximity

Yep, my MS275 clips after about two hours of use at heavy volume. But that amp runs abnormally hot. Neither of my Rockford amps have any heat issues at all back there. I plan on installing the Bose sub cover and a fan to help cool my gear. Should be a snap to install... (famous last words?)

So, will 2 Kenwood amps (KAC-X810D and KAC-X650D) produce too much heat for stock sub location?
What if I cut out a large portion of the stock sub panel so it will have a much greater for air to flow, will that help?

i'm going to put a JL 3x400, 1F cap, and 2 crossovers in the drivers side and 2x JL 1x500 in the passenger side...

my plan is to cut vents in the doors and cover with black cloth/mesh, maybe hook up a couple 80mm AddA DC fans (brand name is AddA, they're perfectly silent)

Pic of my MDF amp rack. Just testing for fit in this pic, so not fixed in yet.

Made to size for a JL Audio 1000/1 & 450/4 to sit on top. They will be mounted on metal spacer tubes, so the lower amp is 1" off the MDF & the upper amp is an inch or so above that. Gives a nice air gap all round to help keep things cool. Holes in rack line up with heatsinks on amps, so I could mount some fans under the rack to blow through the holes if need be, but I don't think i'll need to.

some pics of recent audio stuff i'm working on (still very much a work-in-progress / not all that presentable yet):

building / bracing the box:

box bolted to the car w/ 2 HUGE washers (and silicone sealed). utilized the spare-tire tiedown bolt hole:

amps wired up on carpeted mdf rack:

frame rail where the amps (2x 1000/1 from JL) are grounded. you can get an idea of the SEVEN cans of 3m rubberized undercoating:

multi-layer mdf piece bolted to the car and screwed to the box:

sub in place:

amp-rack lit w/ a red cathode. not terribly happy and the 13w7 killed the cathode already anyway lol:

stormy sky - i'm driving back from a trip to Montana (that pic was on the way) hence why this was a work-in-progress:
