Default HELP my sub problem!

I have a TITANIUM 12D ELITE, 12 inch dual 4 ohm subwoofer, 1200/2000W (RMS/PEAK). running in parallel in 2ohm.

the last owner of the sub was running JL 1000/1 to the sub, and it was running really good, good power, and it was running in series.

now i tried 2 amp, one is hifonic bx1500d, 1000watt @ 2ohm; the other one is v12 mrv 1507, 900watt @ 2ohm.
sub works on both amp, but it is not giving me anything. it is only touching my finger. not giving me even 1/4 bass that it was producing when it was running series on the JL 1000/1.

so now i worry there is problem with the sub. is there anyway to find out if there is problem with the sub??

i say it's the amps. get a better amp and that should solve your problems.

It is NOT the amps, unless they are broken, since those are more than capable amps of putting out all the power you need.

Check that you have not wired the coils out of phase ... that would cause this problem.

Also, is this subwoofer in the exact same box that you heard it in before. The box will totally change the sound of the subwoofer

also check your gains and crossovers on your headunit and the amps. And if the amp has it the master/slave button.

Out of phase is when your other speakers are all hooked up correctly positive to positive leads, and negative to negative leads, but the sub woofer is hooked up backwards, the positive to the negative. This is called out of phase and will negate the bass. The hifonic should work great. It says stable down to 1ohm, you can actually rewire the 2 subs in parallel, bringing it down below 2 ohms. You wire in series to keep the ohms up if you blow out the amp or fuses all the time. In parallel you'll get a bit more bump out of it as long as the amp can handle it. Hifonics has an 18db gain at 40Hz and a 20-150hz crossover setting. Try setting it to 80Hz, boost the bass 10db at 40Hz and rewire in parallel. Should get some great thumping out of that setup.

I was always running in Parallel, it was the owner before was running in series with his JL 1000/1... I changed back to series this evening, and it actually give me more bass... so i dunno what's going on now... and the terminal on the sub actually has the + and - sign for me to follow... i checked it many time to make sure the wires are wired right already...

i will try to set the gain and crossover setting tmr then...

okie, i find out the way i am wiring the sub is same as the last owner; however, it is not wired in series. now it is wired to the amp by + to +, - to - for both the coil... so 1st coil + to + and - to - on the amp.......... then 2nd coil + to + and - to - on the amp... can anyone explain what's the diff between wiring like that, series, and parallel??

Ok ... it appears that the coils are wired independently on the amplifier.

I don't know how the internals of the Hifonics bridge/series/parallel or whatever ... but on my JBL1200.1, I just use ONLY TWO of the outputs (one pos, one negative) on the amplifier and then use the parallel diagram that you listed above. Try this.... and let me know

The problem is I was wiring in parallel as the diagram above, but it didn't give me less bass vs wiring independently...

Check the gain on the amp (aka the input signal). If it is up and the there are no error lights on the amp it may be a blown sub...

DECK: Alpine CDA 9815
AMP: HiFonic bx1500d
Sub: TITANIUM 12D ELITE

I know the sub is not blown for sure, since it does give me bass when it is wired independently, but just not enough since it is only giving me 500watt at 4ohm...

the problem is when I connected the sub in parallel i dun even get the same bass level when i wired in independently. I get less bass in parallel...
I am actually a newbe on stereo stuff... so does the gain **** = to the bass EQ?? since i see no gain **** on the amp...

and i have no idea how to setup the crossover on the deck...

Usually, 2 channel amps have a bridged mode. Where you only use one + and one - output, not both as you have pictured. You hook up both +'s on the sub to the one + on the amp, and both -'s on the sub to the one - on the amp that says bridge mode. That's how you get the most power out of the amp. You should try the 2 outside connectors on the amp, for bridged mode or check the manual if you have it. If you're using two dual voice coil subs, you wire the one sub in series between the 2 coils and both subs in parallel, so as not to bring down the ohms below 1 ohm.

dang, just looked it up, it's a mono amp. You still should use one of the +, - outputs though i would think. Is there a phase switch? I know it comes with a remote bass **** too and a hp/lp switch, but they should be all set, if it was pounding in your friends car. Do you know their website?
