Default 2 12" W6V2's versus 2 10" W6V2

Hi all:

Considering that price is not an object, which would you choose? I'm a sq oriented person that likes clean/tight bass. Where I work we have a RSX show car done by Good Guys with a pair of 12w6v2's that sounds insanely good.

I'm willing to get the fiberglass work done in order to get the pair of twelves under the strut bar. Looking for opinions of what would be better for me...I listen to mostly hip hop and some punjabi music ahhahahaha basically stuff that has a lot of good bass lines.

i used to work at good guys in east palo alto, iv'e sat inside that rsx and it sounds insane..with your type of music i would go with the 2 12's..but you could go with the 10's in a ported enclosure and sound just as good if not better than the 12's and save you some $$ in the process

Yah..I work at Good Guys and our store (stockton) owns the car now. I used to have a ported 10w7 in the car, and it sounded like crap. This time I'm going all out, at least 100 sq. ft of dynamat/fatmat and making sure I get exactly the sound I want.

I'm glad you have heard the car I'm talking about...thats exactly what I want to do. Do you think 3-ways would be feasible (the same way the rsx had it) ? I'm 90% sure I'm going to do the pair of 12's and just let the fiberglass box under the strut take care of the fitment problems.

Any other opinions bro?

I know a guy that's running 2 12w6v2 powered by an Xtant 600.1 to each, ported in his civic. Crazy loud. Enough to start to see webbing in his paint and break his power sunroof. I'm running 3 10w6v2 sealed with an Xtant 300.1 to each. Can't really compare because it's 2 different applications but both sound good.

Ok well I'm positive I'm going with sealed 12's or 10's. I'm trying to decide what to do still. As long as I can make it fit thats what I will do.

Stu, do you have hella dynamat? I'm going to use quite a bit. When I had the 10w7 it rattled up my hatch area. I think that took away from the overall sound. Can the bass be heard outside the car too?

You can get about 2cuft if you remove the spare. Enough for 2 12 or 2 10 sealed.

There's a few strips of dynamat like material, not much. Mainly to reduce the road noise from coming in. My hatch doesn't rattle anymore cause I removed the brake light shade and disconnected it.

I don't listen to the stereo very loud when cruising so I don't know. If this helps, I listen to it at about 10-12 when cruising and 16-18 on the freeway. 22 is about max. When the volume is at 12, it can barely be heard from the outside if my car is parked. But if you play some crunk at 20, I'm sure it would be heard. HTH

Cool. I dont know what it is about the Z but the rsx with the pair of twelves is very loud and clean on the inside and there is absolutely no rattle on the outside...just the bass or the air pumping out the windows. Even at conservative volume levels its sick sound wise.

Thats what I want with the Z. I'm going to do the under the strut box and fiberglass it out to fit the twelves.

thanks!

There is a bunch of markup on JL stuff...its price protected and they track what you buy so in short not really =(

JL Audio 1000.1 cost a lot. Wholesale would run in the high $600.

I would say two 10w7's will be insane. TWo 12w7's will be overkill for sure. Two 10w6v2's will be loud and provide great sound. I'm only going with the 12's b/c I'm doing a custom box probably.

the box on ebay is a great buy. i might end up doing a pair of 500/1's for a more show look. i'm still deciding--but seriously anything you choose will be fine. For the recommended airspace of the box and to keep costs down I'd probably go with the 10w6v2, b/c the W7 needs more than a cube of air space in order to sound right (sealed).

peace!

Ok i'll see what I can do. Hahah she didnt tell me that yet. I meant I was going to put the kit on after my rims come (about three weeks).

I'm having a hard time deciding what to do first. Probably kit then small system. But, if the car looks sick with just the wheels I'm going to put something insane in the trunk.

i'll talk to my manager tomororow.

xtreme, I wouldnt do the ported pair of twelves. I mean its feasible, but the airspace for each of those ported is like 1.5 cu ft. So thats a good 3 cu. ft in an already small car.

There is a lot of cabin gain with the Z. Essentially what that means is that once the subs are in the car, the subtleties of the interior increase the decibel levels. I think you will be extremely impressed in a very sealed and tight box for the 12's. It will still need to be glassed if you want them to fire off the hatch area.

Anyway, I'll post what I decide to do. Are yours already installed? I'm curious what you think of them sound quality wise.

I'll most certainly post pics. The car is completely under construction. Its literally going to be a daily driven show car.
