Default What to put in my box!!!

So I just bought a custom box that fits under the strut bar and will accomodate one 10" sub. Anyone with this setup have any idea on what sub and amp combination I should use. I'm looking for punchy tight bass you get from a rock song not insane license plate rattling bass from a Dr. Dre Chronic track. Also, where should the amp go? Thanks to all you guys for comments.

Umm, well if ur gonna with 1 ten, like i did as well, i went with a JL 10w7, they hit hard as hell, but theyre a very good sub, so itll be tight with rock beats and whatever else you got. Theyre expensive, but definitely worth the money. Elemental designs also makes some good ones. As far as amps go, i dunno, how much power do u wanna run?

Here is the link from ebay where I bought it. The guy lists tons of subs but I'm not very confident in regards to which is better than the next. As far as amps go, I want enough but not excess power, like I said just enough to power the sub and sound tight, not blow off the hatchback. Also, money is sort of an issue, I'd like to get the sub and amp for around $500 or so. Thanks.

for $500 he's probably better off doing a 10w3 and maybe a 300 or 200 amp? W6 and W7 are expensive

car audio aside...this is a funny name for a thread. lol. just imagine it in the offtopic forum. lol

If money allows, I'd go with the 10w6v2 and a JL 500/1.
A cheaper but still good route would be the w3v2 and 300/2.

Thanks for the invite Onii, however I'm currently living in Chicago and wont be back in NYC for awhile. Also, I think I'm gonna go with the JL Audio. I'll just save a bit and get the W6 and 500 amp.

the jl 250/1 puts out just over 300 watts (says various test reports.) why go with the 300/2? The 250.1 puts about almost as much power for almost half the price. I have a 300/4 with two of the channels going to a 10w3v2 in the stock location = not happy. I just purchased a 500/1 and will be ordering Nazar's under-strut box and 10w7.

take my advice; do not push a good sub with low power. Do not buy a 300/2 with a w6v2. The w6 and w7 need the 500.1 to push it.

Purchase either: 10w3v2 with 250.1 (less than 500 at an authorized jl dealer) or
10w6v2 with 500.1 (800 authorized, 700ish ebayed)

Yes. This there is a science to this. What is the cubic foot measure of the internals of the box? Take the Thiel-Small parameters and run them through a java calculator and you'll be able to deteremine fairly accurately if you're have tight or boomy base.

For my box twin 10" JL 10W3v2's will actually give me the broad flat response I want.

---snip---
I beg to differ.

According to the manufacture's web site the 250/1 puts out 250 watts RMS at 1.5 to 4 ohms, and the 300/2 puts out 300 watts RMS at 3 to 6 ohms when bridged mono.

The R.I.P.S is suppose to optimize the output current across a wide range of output impedance making the use of 2 ohm subwoofers an unneed requirement.

JL 300/2 $330 or $1.10 per watt of music.
JL 250/1 $300 or $1.20 per watt of music.
The 250/1 is actually more expensive for electron pushed.

There are advantages going with the 250/1 as it is a purpose built subwoofer amplifier with its infransonic filter and efficient class D amplifier given it a better dampening factor.

How much do you care about weight? A particle board box, big magnet sub and amp can weigh in at 100lbs. The high end JL subs like the 10w7 has some serious mass to it. Make this decision first, then explore your options. I went with the JL W3v2 for weight reasons. Didn't want to start bulking out my car. On the other hand, if you have a 400hp SC or TT car, don't worry about the weight.

Listening to music in Japan probably

When I'm not sitting on my fat behind surfing the Internet I'm a broadcast television engineer for the military's radio and television network. My problem is that I'm getting rusty from having spent the last ten years in management.

Back in the day we used slide rulers, then electronic calculators ... and now we have java scripts!

http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=30

I make the cubic foot measurement of my Zenclosure e-bay box as 0.66 cu/ft. - that would be the Vb in the java calculator above.
