Default RE Audio XXX

I called RE and asked them about the mounting depth for a 10" XXX. Its about 7.25 inches. Anyone know if that will fit in one of the ebay under strut boxes? I know it will fit mounting diamater-wise but depthwise anyone know?

Thanks

I measured staight back at a 90 degree angle from the exact center of one of the two holes in my Zenclosure box and measured 7 5/8". The top of the hole measures just 5 5/8 inches back, the bottom measures 9 inches so depending on the diameter of your magnet you're going to bump the top against the inside of the front wall.

You could go with a slight spacer to get the thing to fit hard pressed.

PS - I just noticed that there are now two different boxes for sale on ebay. The one I have is $99 and is from Zenclosures. There is now a second one for $154 from SoundOffAudio.

If it doesn't fit flush, you can always make a spacer ring to make it so that it fits.

Don't you want to keep at least .25"-.5" from the end of the speaker to the beginning of the box to eliminate interior harmonic distortion?

I always thought this was a small yet important measurement. You will have space since 5/8 > .25, so yeah. Use a small trim riing in order to space it a bit, just make sure to seal it off nicely.

what kind of spacer would i need and how would i go about sealing it up? i really want to make this set up work and i really want it under the strut bar!

I heard the RE XXX in a friends car a while ago and its simply phenominal. Clean solid bass just the way i like it!

Yah, I used to own a 15" version of it. I might try to fit in a single 12, that will be devestating bass bro! Ahahah

Anywho, imagine a mdf circle that is x inches thick, and has the same circumference as your sub. Its very typical, go to your local audio shop for any questions. You can use any typical sealer such as silicone to make sure the box is sealed off. Also, make sure to have bracing and have them make the front baffle at least 1" thick. The sub ways something like 50 lbs, so you dont want any destruction back there haha.

You really want to have about 1" of free airspace behind the driver like this.

Basically, since the polepiece is vented, you change the compliance of the driver by plugging it, as well as take away from the benefits of the venting. Essentially the cooling effects are taken away...so thermal compression sets in sooner.

I would make the ring out of a say 18 x 11 x 1 oval shape piece of MDF with the 10" cutout for the driver in the center ... then roundover the edges. I'd mount it on with about 15 countersunk screws, bondo it ... and paint ... or carpet in this case.

Essentially, it would be a cosmetic trim piece that also acts as a nice spacer too. I think it coul be make to look pretty nice.
