Im an audio newbie so this may be a dumb question. Reason im asking is i want a simple set up that sounds good. I was thinking about doing MB quartz components in the front and 6.5 subs (if they exist) in the rear...all in the stock locations. Then get an amp to run it all, to finish off the set up. Any imput would be greatly appreciated

will check them out and see if they have a bit of bass..
i know there are guys who want bass, but not bass that will burst heads and teeth and stuff, so these could be cool
save trunk space too :P

well, i just installed my 6.5" woofers. And they just don't compare to a true 10 or 12 inch sub. they complement them well, but in no way can they take the place of a sub....unless you get like 4 of them. Mounting them in the z's rear deck also poses problems as you have to seal up all the holes in the baffle so the sound waves dont cancel eachother out.
IMO, in the Z, 6.5" woofers don't work well.

The 6500 comps are amazing, I have them. The eU700s should give some good lows as well, but dont expect to wak up the neigborhood with 30Hz notes...
Where did you install your tweets? I had mine in the kick panels and imaging was just freaking outstanding...

Did you seal it up? I was planning on using them as midbass in mine, the 12A provided enough low low bass. It may just be that the location is not ideal for bass because it is not sealed (and is tough to seal, I tried with edead). You may have to make a small seales box in each corner of the hatch... it would leave a lot of room still...
I just mounted them where the rear speakers were. I edeaded all the holes up as well. It could just be my install as everyone else seems to be saying how good the 700's sound. But I'm too happy with my 13Ov.2 and 6500's to care about a marginal improvement in midbass if I were able to get the 700's.
After i move I will build a box for them and see how they do sealed in a real box.

Agreed, you can't fake the funk. Granted, it definitely is better...but its still missing something. Just like what they say about engines, there is no replacement for displacement

All I can say is that mounting them in the stock rear speaker location doesn't work so well. You can't seal it up infinite baffle, and there isn't enough volume you can seal up in there to make a "sealed" area behind the speaker. I guess you can make some small FG enclosures on each side of the car in that little area between the speaker hump and the strut to keep all the hatch area open.
Currently they are on an introductory sale for $50 a peice until august 1st when they'll go to $85 most likely shipped to your door. www.edesignaudio.com
Cheap enough to buy a pair and mess around with.
