Had my Bose Repaired Today
Well I had the fix done today.
I must admit i was kinda scared re: the prospect of losing my precious bass.
Well let me say that there must be a bunch of whiney, wanna-be audiophiles in here b/c the fix is 5X better sound.
Not only is the volume higher, but the bass hits HARD. in addition there is greater aural clarity and separation. What I did notice however, is that adjusting the fader to the rear DOES limit the total sound volume. However this is to be expected - as the system treats the system as a whole. Simply cutting out the fronts results with only the rear "fill" speakers being used. I usually fade my systems to the front for better sound imaging however, what I found is that the system souns the best AND loudest at the "0" or possibly "+1" position.
So yes, I'm EXTREMELY happy with the BOSE now. The bass is tight and punchy, the volume is great and it NEVER distorts. Additionally I dont really seem to notice any fluctuations in volume at all. Mind you Ilisten to primarily CDs havent had a chance to try it with the radio - but previous reports had claimed that the fix has no effect on the CD performance - however this i found to be untrue.
I've had 400w systems in my previous cars. The BOSE actually sounds on par if not better than these systems.
What the system IS NOT is a rolling IASCA showpiece. If you want to share your music with everybody on the block, the bose is NOT it for you. You'de be better served with an aftermarket system. however, if you want clean, powerful factory sound then get the "fix" I am VERY pleased.
This experience has also reminded me re: something I've alsways known. The web is full of B$. You have 10 people on a forum complaining about minutia which may or may not me applicable to a specific persons situation. In addition, you get the trolls fanning the flames...
goodluck

ok now try this...
turn up the volume a bit louder than normal... preferably with a song that hass good bass and highs...
now adjust the bass and treble controls....
you'll soon see why us "whiney wannabe audiophiles" are complaining.
after the amp TSB the bass and treble controls have little to no effect
try it and report back with your findings

I am glad it worked out for you. I am no audio techno person and did not have high expectations for this audio system but I can tell you for damn sure that my system has NO BASS.
I had tried all the hard hitting dance songs and rap crap with no effect. I know what the system's bass was like before the amp TSB (excellent) and now I get zilch.
You wanna swap amps with me....

i think that the system may be a little more complex than your straightforward 5 channel system. When I played CDs like Jayz's "big pimpin" with its deep boisterous bass, project PATs "chickenheads" and its miami influenced 30HZ continuous backdrop of bass, or george clinton's 15 minute "freak of the week I realized the robustness of the system. Now I like my bass clean and tight as opposed to overpowering and distorted ( I prefer sealed vs ported box). If you're expecting the bass you would get from a 500 x 1 Kenwood driving a ported box with 2 x12" orions.... this aint it.
What IO did notice however, is that since there's definitely some electronic trickery going on here, the controls will only do *so* much if the amps are at the threshold of clipping.
Yes, I turn the volume to 31 (I like that...its 30..plus "1" for extra ELEVEN!!) bumping Jay Z's "Hey Papi"...Bass is kickin, tunes are rocked out. Turningthe bass UP seems to have no perceptible effect (who needs it its enuff...the damn mirrors are shaking and the trunk is vibrating). Now, if you turn the bassDOWN. it goes down. This is reallly common sense - my 97 honda prelude had a similar system that measured distortion in the cabin and prevented clipping. The only difference btw that system and this one is that that one didnt have enough VOLUME. In contrast, the NIssan's has plenty! I eventually had to rip out the prelude system and put a MObile ES head and changer, an audiosource crossover, a 50X4 clarion amp and a 200w x1 kenwood driving a 10" Kicker in a custom sealed enclosure. That system sounded Great! However, after the "fix" the 350Z sounds WAY better. Both cars have small cabins so you dont need a lot of SPLs to fill it but the big diff is that everything in the Z is matched and engineered to work together.
So thats tyhe end of my input on this one.
Get the fix done. If you Honestly like it better "pre-fix" then
a) have your dealer put the old one back in
b) go buy an aftermarket system
