So frustrated with Audio I just needed to vent
Well I finally completed my complete alpine system on friday. Alpine CDA-9835 HU, new type X components, blank rears, MRD-m605 mono block to one 10 type R under the strut, and a MRP-f345 powering my interiors.
Just finished up the system on friday, and i already blew the drivers door speaker, and I blew the sub as well. I can't believe that i blew them already, it sounded amazing for like 2 days, and now it just sounds like garbage. When the sub hits, it doesn't sound deep at all, and when the speakers get cranked up, they sound like muddy ***. I'm just pissed, now i'm going to have to take everything out, send it back because i bought it over the internet and then get replacements... This sucks

Check your gains!!!(however the sub can handle 500w rms and your amp only gives out 400w rms at 4ohms), also check your power and grounds to make sure they are good.

Clipping kills speakers.
In a nice sounding sine wave the speaker's cone moves in and out never really pausing at the top or the bottom. It disapates - it uses up - about 10% of the wattage moving the coil back and forth making music. The other 90% is used to heat that coil up. In clipping the speaker pauses at the top and the bottom of it's movement soaking up that DC voltage as 100% heating - not moving the coil at all for that brief moment.
Back when I worked in the business I saw lots of 40 W equalizers eat 100 W speakers. Crank that 40 Hz **** all the way clockwise and let the clipping begin. We'd replace the speakers under warranty twice and then tell the clown he was on his own!

Don't get me wrong, I pushed the heck out of my system... Tweeter reccomended listening to the sub at +7 setting on my alpine unit... Well the bass freak I am, I turned it all the way to +15 and sure enough, it blew like all hell. As for the type X components, they suck.

I am sure you have already done this, But make sure the crossovers are adjusted properly for th efront speakers. Start from 80HZ Hi-Pass and tune it from there. You do not want to run full range signal to your Type-R Speakers.
When you set the gain for your Sub amp Turn your deck Sub level to +15 Then tune it accordingly. Alpine receivers are set up as an attenuater, So when you turn it reduces the signal. You want to get it to where you like it best at +15, you can always turn it down with other songs. This way you won't maximize your potential to blow your sub. Also check the settings of the crossovers in the sub amp.

Type X was not designed to take a beating. They are more of a sound Q speakers. Type R takes a lot more beating.

Make sure you have your V12 amps gains match alpine 4.0v pre amp out put or you are going to blow the subs with to much clipping. I have the 9855, MRD-M605 10 type S and a MRP-F345.
These are digital amps, not the old style analog.
