Default Box Filler

What are you guys using to fill your sub boxes. I ordered one of mikes boxes but its a little bigger than my sub calls for. I need .5cu of space but the box has .75cu. Polyfil...? or something else?

Tried searching but didnt really come across it..

thanks

I went to the sewing/material dept. at WallMart and bot pillow stuffing (polyfill).

I glued it to the inside walls of the box with spray 3M glue.

Definately noticed that the subs hit lower and harder.

When you stuff an enclousure with polyfill it makes the woofer act as if it is an a larger enclousure. What you want to do is make the enclousre smaller. The bets thing you can do is add pieces if wood inside and make sure they are glued very well or screwed in so they do not become loose or vibrate inside the box.

Thats what a friend of mine said also...i was thinking of just using 3m spray adhesive and 2x4 peices to get the volume down...does it matter where in the box you put the 2x4s?

i wish i had a 2qf enclosure for my ov.2s.

good luck!

If its a sealed box, no it won't matter.

+1 glue and screws - lots of both and proper ones. There's a lot of energy being bantered about on the inside of a subwoofer. I would use a carpenter's yellow glue as I've known the wood to give out before that stuff. I want the glue pouring out from around all sides of the wood.

I would also run wood screws (not sheet metal, not pasterboard) through the 2x4 and deep into the box of the subwoofer. You could even crossbrace using dimentional lumber to gain something from the added wood. The screws will hold the wood in place until the glue sets up.

Glad to see that you're actually sizing your driver to the box.
