Was doin some research on the web and came to the conclusion that the Escort 8500 X50 Radar Detector seems to the best on the market. Need some feedback on this one guys!! If anyone has a difference of oppinion let me know cuz if i am gonna shell out that kind of dough i need to know.

 

I went with the Valentine V1 due to it's directional indicators. It makes it easier to make tactical decisions.

 

You can't go wrong with either the 8500 x50 or V1, but this has been discussed to death on every car forum. Search this forum if you want to read about pros/cons. Bottom line is that you can get a new 8500 x50 from ebay for around $200 or the V1 for twice as much. If you're willing to spend $400+, it would be better to get the 8500 x50 + ZR3 laser shifter.

The V1 is the best at detecting Ka POP and the only one that detected K band POP (10% of the time).

The V1 also won in X, K, and Ka band and is the least detected by RDD's or radar detector detectors.

This is going to get ugly quick we we argue V1 vs x50 and it has been done over and over...

One thing we can all agree on is you need to not go cheap on your detector and you get what you pay for.

 

So, the $35 Whistler from Circuit City is out of the question?

Both the 8500 x50 and V1 have a 30-day return policy. Just get them both and return one of them later. You'll just be out shipping, but won't have to wonder if it would have been better to get the other one.

 

hahah weird timing i was unna post the same question....ive seen both but im personally leaning toward the escort...i need one w/ the way i drive

 

both are good... as far as which is better everyone that owns the V1 thinks its better thats why they bought it, everyone that owns the 8500 either thinks it's better or they believe the V1 isn't THAT much better to justify the cost.

If you ask x50 or V1 you may as well just do a roll call of who owns which b/c the owers of each love their detector.

i would get the v1 just becuz of the directionals too...that feature can def save u from a ticket, friend of mine has a escort not the 8500, but it went off and he slowed down but the cop still got us cuz he was behind us, you can make a better decision when u know where the cop is... go for the v1

 

I have a Passport 8500 X50, no tickets so far and it has excellent range. The V1 is jus as good but it had the directional indicators which I didnt think was worth the extra $100, so I just got the X50
