Default subwoofer woes!

ok so i bought an elemental designs amp to run an elemental designs sub...but the sub has been on backorder forever and everytime i call they keep saying 2 more weeks 2 more weeks. So im thinking of going with another sub but i need one that will work with the amp i already have.

what i need:

10 inch speaker
fits in mikes under strut box
will run at 4 ohms
400 watts rms
looking for clarity over output.

heres the sub i currently have on backorder:

I'd say wait for for ED Sub. They really are excellent performing subs. I have one in my daily driver and I'm quite impressed by it's performance.

ED subs are alright but not worth waiting for. Get an Image Dynamic, Kicker, Boston, or Memphis sub. There's no reason in the world to wait more then 2 weeks for an Elemental sub.

Oh - and if you tell me your box specs I'll reccomend a good sub. Need to know air space and mounting depth.

eD subs aren't worth waiting for. It'll only be a matter of time before they discontinue this line and sell something else. Anyone remember thier flat cones?

If I remember right, the internal airspace is about 0.75ft³. An Image Dynamics IDQ 10" would work well.

the airspace is .75 cu ft and the mounting depth is about 6.5 inches. Heres the link to the box:

also wont the IDQ not handle enough power im gonna be putting out about 400 watts rms at 4 ohms.

thanks

Anyone know anything about Memphis subs? I had one installed a month ago just b4 I put my Z back into storage. It sounded great. I've never heard of them b4 but I figured "f*ck it!" I got a decent deal.

Adire Audio Koda 10"

I've got one in Mike's box and was powering it with 400W prior to my system change. Great subwoofer and box combination.

IDQd2 would be my choice for that box.

i ended up goung with the id10 i called ID and gave them what i was working with and the box size etc and they said the ID would work better than the idq because it will handle the power better due to its longer excursion.

thanks for all your help guys

I'm not going to say that ID doesn't know what they are talking about but having built way too many boxes for each sub everytime I find that the IDQ sounds better in boxes speced and amped for an ID. Too often I think Image Dynamic gets wrapped up in theory versus reality. I go 100% for sound quality and that's what I build my boxes for. The ID might hit harder in that box and be more efficent but my experience is saying the IDQ will sound better (and only be 1 to 3 db quieter which really isn't enough to justify the recommendation from ID IMO).

Either sub though is very nice - you'll love it .

Also - if you've got time reverse mount the sub and see if you like it better. Should hit a tiny bit harder and round out the bottom end more (larger box volume). Just a little experiment you can do to that takes very little time to do.
