Default Can you run components with HU

can you run components with just HU. The JL guy said without amp components will just suck. And if i am running door speakers using HU i should look for something like ECLIPSE SA8364.

also how are the eclipse HU? he recommended them over alpine or pioneer.

I will be getting 10w3 JL sub + 250/1 amp. The issues I have now are the front speakers + HU.

Every installer is recommnding different stuff... so I am pretty confused as of right now.

One thing I would recommend if you wanna keep the stock head unit is the JL Audio Clean sweep. You will need to use amplifiers to run you components, but with this system it makes it very easy to add the 10w3 and 250/1 along with front and rear stage and with something like a 300/4 to run them.

I do not have a lot of experience with eclipse, but I will tell you that Alpine and Pioneer are two very GOOD names. He is probably just pushing the items he makes the most money on.

I want to change the HU: I was thinking about Pioneer DEH P8MP or Alpine CDA-9855. But the JL guy said they both suck... Eclipse is supposed to be better. He recommended this Eclipse CD5435 (5V) or CD8445 (8V). He said that Alpine and Pioneer are 4V and that makes the sound less clear or sth.

Now regarding components: he said if I want to run components from my new radio is will suck. components need amp... and if I want to go the without-the-amp-route I should not buy components. He said better speakers are those SA 8364 from Eclipse.. sine my radio output will be only 50W.

regarding sub: I am going with 1 JL 10w3-D4 sub + 250/1amp to power it.

My questons is: how will it sound if I just use the amp for the sub and then just run front-door speakers out of my radio? So I will have two 6.5 speakers in the front door and 10" sub and amp in the trunk.

The link to the speakers is here:
http://www.eclipse-web.com/sa3way/sa8364.html

What do you think?

He is feeding you a bunch of BS. Alpine and Pioneer work beautifuly. When you say JL guy, you mean a retail shop? Let me guess the eclipse costs more? If it doesnt I am sure he has a higher profit margin on them.

You can run the front components off of the deck itself. They will sound ok, they just will not be as crisp and loud as they would be with an amplifier.

As for the 10w3 and 250/1 set-up. That is what I first ran when I got my Z and they sounded good.

Both of those decks (alpine and pioneer) are both quality pieces and you will get excellent sound out of them.

I would suggest going to a few different Z club meetings and listening to peoples set-ups. Then research the facts and decide what you like the best.

JL guy = authorized JL dealer employee

The eclipse retails for $349. And the Pioneer and Alipne or around $400.

I wanted to go with JL components - but he said that when powered just by a radio it will be just a waste of money... thats why he said I should go with those Eclipse SA8364 that go for $229 => he said that those speakers will sound better then JL components when not powered by amp.

I guess the best choice would be to go with 450/3 amp; and power my 10w3 sub and then 2 fron components....

USN HM 350Z: how did your system sound with speakers powered by the radio + 10w3 and 250/1 amp? Was it ok?

I never powered mine by just the HU. I used a 300/4 for my door and rear stage and the 250/1 for the 10w3 I put in the stock location. I sounded really good though. I am just an audiophile so I changed out to a 500/1 with 2 10w6v2 in a custom fiberglass enclosure (which I will be switching again soon) LOL

Good luck with the system. Just take your time, research and listen to as many cars as you can and then make your decision.

I installed my Pioneer AVIC N2 into my system to drive my Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1's and they really cranked loud. I was just going to go with a subwoofer amplifier to drive the two 10.0's but my wife thought that a second amplifier would be nice ... wedging a second amplifier into the hole left by the stock woofer was a nice challenge.

So basically I should:

- get a JL 450/4 amp => then bridge 1&2 channel to drive my JL 10w3 sub in a "Zenlosure by Mike"
- and then use channels 3,4 to drive my front components => f.ex the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 or JL XR650
- get a new HU: Apine CDA-9855 or Pioneer DEH-P80MP

and I should be set if I understand correctly.

should I buy a cap for this system?

Thanks

That system would sound great in the Z.

Your not going to have a Big enough amp draw to need a cap. Cap's are way over rated, if you were to the point that your alt couldnt supply enough amps, you would need a bigger alt. When I get my 1000/1 I will have my alt rebuilt to put out more amps.

I should be going with 4ohm 10w3??
1 & 2 channel bridged in a 450/1 amp give: 300 W RMS x 1 @ 3 ohm – 8 ohm (11 – 14.5V)

thanks

I would get the 10W3v2-D6 which is a dual 6 ohm, once you then you can run them together and drop it to 3 Ohms which is exactly what the 450/4 will run

yes, it is a dual voice coil sub. you connect the 2 voice coils which are 6 ohms each and that will drop them down to 3 ohms total.

but 10w3 d4 will give me 8ohms.... and 10w3 d2 will give me 4 ohms => which shuld also be good for the amp. in the manual it says that only 1.5 & 2 nominal impedance is not recommended; but 3,4,6,8 is ok.

is there any reason I want 3ohms over 4 or 8ohms. d4 are easier to find them d6 - thats why i am asking.
