Default What type speakers to replace stock?

I was looking at speakers to replace the stock ones, but I do not have a lot of knowledge about speakers. I saw some that were called component speakers, and then there's two-way, and three way. If all I wanted to do was upgrade the stock speakers(no future plans of subwoofers), what do you suggest? If you could please give me an idea of the differences in types, and then suggest a brand. Thanks!
Jason

Set a budget. Go with components in the front and either coax, mid-bass, or no speakers in the rear. Biggest issue you will probably face after that is getting your particular front components to fit and figuring out where to mount your tweets. 6.5's may sound like a standard speaker size, but take my word for it there are big differences in dimensions from manufacturer to manufacturer. See the pics attached for instance. Three higher end mids that go for around the same price, but differ in mounting depth by almost 3/4". Also notice how the surrounds, magnets and casing are different.

1" spacers will work for the smaller depth mids, but you will need to go 1.5" or even something more tricky as your depth approaches 3".

Regarding tweets. I recommend kick panels, but many people put them in the stock location. Again, sizing is the only problem. You will have to do some cutting, dremelling regardless of the option you choose. My particular setup has a pair of tweets in the kicks (main tweets) and a second set on the dash (ambient HPF 8k)

Good luck

MYO is that you need to really listen to these guys yourselfs. If you have a budget I would spend 40% on the front componets, 40% on the subwoofer, and 20% on the rears. Two way speakers are probably good enough if you get high quality ones, the little three ways speakers tend to have tweeters and super tweeters. If you go with a subwoofer you'll want your front components to be mid-bass and tweeters.

Pick your front components first and then buy the rest to match.

I would hope for 6K that music groups would majically appear and play live. Congrats on your 6K dollar set up, but that's not what my question was.

CDT audio. I got mine and I am more than pleased. Do yourself a favor and whatever you do, dont budget on front componets. I would actually rather budget on my sub than my componets if I had it to do over. I have a JLw6 and its not even a quarter of the volume that it is capable of. I could have saved about 100 bucks with a smaller sub and put it toward componets. get the picture?

If I were you I would go with the CDT Eurosport series and feed them 150w per channel.

Count me in as another fan of CDT Audio components. I have a set of CDT CL-61's in my Lexus RX300. They are the most natural sounding speakers I've ever heard. I currenlty have a set of Infinity Kappa 60.7 components in my G35C, but I will be replacing them with CDT components shortly.

To answer the original question (ahem), my feeling is that the best bang for the buck when upgrading the stock non-Bose system is replacing the rear speakers. The Polk DB675 (a 6 3/4 inch two way) is a near perfect fit in the factory holes, and gives a significant improvement in high end clarity along with a small improvement in bass response. The cost is reasonable (I paid $60 on eBay); the only drawback is having to remove several large plastic panels from the rear of the interior. Printing off the relevant pages from the factory service manual (available online) will be a major help, telling you where the various panel clips and plugs are.

Maybe I'm missing something, but you don't seem to have pics of your speakers on that page, nor do you have a listing of audio components.
