Guys,

What you think about this headunit. It might look good with the stock color and might blend in. How much better would it be compared to stock stereo?
I just want clarity and better definition to music

Everything about the Bose needs help. If you swap the headend you're going to want to change the speakers and remove the amplifiers too. The stock system is alright, better than most, but still needs a bunch of help to get good.

Go single din if you want it simple with a compartment to hold 2 CD covers. They don't make nice double dins unless you get the Navi version with an extra input.

If your concerned about the asthetics only, and not too concerned with premium sound I say go for it. I looked at the more important things, the specs. Wasn't too impressed with it's power output, preamp voltage output, not the amount of preamp putputs. If you don't plan on running amps, you won't get very much volume out of the HU. If you do plan on running amps, the voltage output on the RCA's is not that great. Granted, you can compensate for this with a bigger amp but I prefer using smaller amps with less power consumption to do the same job using a higher RCA input voltage. As far as system expension. Again, if you want something mediocre you'll be fine. If you plan on running mutiple amps and want the most flexibility, you'll need at least 3 pairs of preamp outputs. 3 preamp outputs are generally configured as follows: 2 preamp outs(4 channels) for mids/high ; 1 preamp output(2 channels) for subs.

Why can't a manufacturer come out with a quality double DIN unit? It's ok, but 1.8 amps of output voltage is pretty anemic.

Get rid of the tape deck, upgrade the display and voltage Kenwood!

Kenwood does have another DD HU that is way better than the one listed above. I can't remember what model it is though. I think Pioneer also makes one.

I don't think I'd ever do a DD though. No detachable face = theft waiting to happen

may not be detachable face, but its usually mounted into the car directly, not just held in by a peice of plastic framing. A their would have to remove the dash, unscrew stuff, and so on. Not simple.

I know this and you know this, but thieves.......they are idiots. Some punk @ss kid will rip your dash apart with a screwdriver trying to dismantle the HU. IMO the less attraction you bring to your system, the long you'll keep it.

Yeah, I like the DDX just don't need the huge screen and expensive price tag.

Something high quality, nice display, and under $500.

Good luck on meeting those requirements, but if I had a budget of $500 I go with Pioneer. I've owned Sony, Pioneer, and Alpine. Pioneer seems to always give me the most bang for my buck and has never malfunctioned.
