Default A question for '06 owners...

Have any of you guys switched out your stock head unit yet? I'm looking at getting an '06 Enthusiast, and I want to install an aftermarket head unit, but I don't want to lose the use of the steering wheel controls. Is that possible?

you will just have to buy an extra part, but i had to deal with this with my old car... my grand am... all you had to do is by an extra piece, so if you want to do it , GO FOR IT!

That sounds easy enough. Thanks!

Congrats on your PPW. That's my favorite color. I had an '05 PPW.

hey i actually asked that question right after i bought my car, they mentioned something about a "PAC SWIX" so you won't lose your steering wheel controls. I am actually still waiting for someone else to install their headunit and speakers cuz I have no idea how to take off the door panels for these 06's.
Anyways, here's the link:

Thanks for all the input guys! Now I just have to make a final decision on a set up. I'll post again once the car gets here and I get it done.

When I bought my Alpine, I noticed it said steering wheel controller capable, but required an extra part.

Which Alpine did you get? I'm looking to put one in my car with the iPod interface. I've had the 9847 in the past (and in a Jeep currently) and I really liked it.

"The Piece" ( ) is manufactured by PAC (Pacific Accessory Corporation), and as someone mentioned above, the model that converts OEM steering-mounted controls for use with aftermarket HUs is SWI-X. Online price is around $60. Here's the official link:

Scroll down to read on the SWI-X.
