Metra 99-7402 HU Installation Kit
I just recieved my Metra installation kit for my Z (part number 99-7402), and I have to say it's a great kit. It comes with two complete installation kits. The first is for an ISO or DIN and a pocket, the second is a double ISO or DIN kit. Both kits (as we've seen in other's posts) matches the slight arc of our center dash.
I've got my Z apart right now and it won't be back together for a while (I just started the stereo install), but I wanted to get the HU hooked up and installed since it's just been sitting around for 4 months and I wanted to ensure it's still working perfectly. Now it's on to the speakers and figuring out my sub and amps (2) installations.
The main reason for this post is for the search feature. When I searched I couldn't find the part number to save my life and the people at Circuit City were worthless in helping me. I did find the number here but it took a ton of searching. Now it should be straight forward with it in the Subject line. So since I'm here, I'll post what my current plans are,
HU: Nakamichi CD45Z w/amber display(have)
Front Speakers: Boston Pro 6.5s (have)
Rear Speakers: stock or remove all together. Will be powered off of Nak power (have)
Speaker Amp: PPI PowerClass 400W amp (running around 100W@3ohms to the Pros only. (have)
Sub: Boston Pro 10 or Image Dynamic 10 (undecided still)
Sub Amp: PPI PowerClass 250W amp @ 4ohms (might go to 500W @ 2ohms). (have)
Really the only thing I'm missing is the sub.
Future plans:
Nakamichi 6 disk in dash player in 2nd DIN.
Nakamichi CD700 HU (this might come real soon)
Boston Reference Z6 front speakers (waiting for dealer to get their first set in).
I might go with different amps as well, I'm still undecided since I want them to look good and my PPIs are several years old and showing their age now. They would go to my daily driver Civic if not used in the Z.

Certainly - just give me a couple of days at most. I took the kit up to my garage and installed my HU into it just to test everything out. The fit is great and it looks sweet even with the center council just resting in the car.
I'm going to head up there with my digi-cam in a few and take some pictures. Then it's off to the stereo shop to get some Dynamat to do the front doors, hit the hardware store for some MDF to play with, then I'll hopefully get back here and download the pics. If you don't see them today I'll get them up monday, tomorrow is the Detroit auto show.

It's amazing what you can get done if you put your mind too it.... Without delay, some pictures.
Metra Kit....

The single Din is mounted, the double din along with the instructions, an optional trim ring (I used my Nak), two mounting brackets and instructions laying on floor.
HU installed in single DIN w/pocket.

Low shot of single din kit mounted. This shows the kit's match to the arc in the center dash.

Mounting of single DIN. As you can see the single DIN kit has all the required mounts and fits perfectly in the dash. If you look at the top of the picture in front of the HU you'll see the required mounts to mount the center dash to the car.

Side note - as you can see from the first picture, the Double din requires the use of the stock bracketing.
Digressing a little....
Here's my Nakamichi HU in the car with power on.

Another shot showing dash lighting too.

Inside of the door

Inside of door panel (I layed the Boston Pro crossover in there to show how deep that section is.

Window in front speaker hole...

Sorry about the poor lighting, I wanted to get the pictures and didn't want to have to play with lighting in my shop. I think most came out well.

You know, the Metra kit looks pretty good, but I can't seem to get mine to stop rattling. I haven't figured out a good way to backstrap the headunit down, and I can't quite identify the source of the rattle. Has anyone else had similar issues with this kit, or is it just my HU?
