Default complete new audio install

just got my car back last night with everything switched out on my '06...list of things installed:

Kenwood DDX-8017
Kenwood KCA-iP500
Kenwood KNA-DV4100 w/ mic
Infinity Reference 5761a 6 channel amp
Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1d
Inifinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components
Infinity Reference 6012i rears
Custom Subwoofer Sub Box Enclosure
1 Farad Capacitor
Nissan 350Z Metra Kit
PAC SWI-X
Kenwood KSC-900CTR

not installed was the Farenheit T-7000MHR as it would have cost me an extra $440 that i don't have to fabricate a fiberglass trim...i'll have to wait until there are more options for the '06 cubby hole as i don't think the '03 will work correctly with the latch being completely different...anyways, installation came cheap at $850 from a buddy of mine that owns Bad Boy Customs in Joliet, Illinois...he hooked it up nicely install and price...here are some pics:

the infrared for the PAC-SWIX so that i can still use the steering wheel mounted controls:

center channel

the microphone for the nav is mounted on the A pillar discretely and the iPod connector is in the center console compartment

question: do i just not know how to use the iPod controls on the DDX8017 or does it just suck? it seems i can only search by a catergory such as playlist, artist, genre, etc. but once i do select one of those, i can't search within that folder and list the name of the songs...is there a way to do that instead of just playing next to go down alphabetically? also, when i press the scan button to change the search mode, is there an easier way to tell what i'm searching instead of going to menu then channel name to find out what i'm searching? so far this iPod thing is giving me massive anneurisms and is not user friendly at all

all comments are welcome

yea Nick and Juan at Bad Boy Custom Audio really did a great job for a great price...i was very impressed at how clean the install was

the center channel makes a huge difference for watching DVDs...since the DDX8017 has DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 processing the center channel works the same way as home stereos and i must admit, watching a movie sounds better in the car than it does with my 6.1 channel THX certified home theater system...i watched the opening war scene of Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan's Normandy Beach scene, and the depth charge scene from U-571 and holy crap the sound completely envelopes you within...i'm very impressed with the staging of these Infinity speakers

Default Regarding the Kappa Perfect 6.1s

I'm about to post a thread about this, but i figure you may answer back first.

First of all did you mount the kappa perfect 6.1s in the front?

If yes, where did you mount your tweeters and where did you mount your crossovers?

Thanks,
Alex

Center channel install is slick, first time I've seen that.

Where do you put your sunglasses now?

yea the 6.1s are in front using the stock speakers as spacers...the crossovers are mounted right above them, and i have them set at 0 as +5 was way too loud...and the tweets are in the stock location, they fit right under there angled a little towards inside the cabin, looks completely stock (a little too stock! if you didn't know any better, you'd never be able to tell just by looking that any of the speakers were changed)

i've been playing around with the surround settings on the 8017 and i got the center to work while playing stereo 2-channel sources...so now i use it all the time and not only when watching a DVD...i think it was a great investment

oh and the sunglasses are either on or they're brought in the house...i don't think i've ever used the sunglass holder for sunglasses...or anything for that matter

but there's still room in there so if did need to use it i could still open it and store a small pair in there

whoa holy crap! i didn't click on your link at first because i thought it was an advertisement...now that i've seen it i'm loving the sub and amp setup! really great job

i set myself a $4,000 limit on parts and labor and promised i would not break it although i'm very close...i'm sure your setup cost a fortune but it looks well worth it...the center channel definitely makes a huge difference, i agree...now all my cars in the future will require one! kind of like NAV, once you have it you can never live without it

thanks mate

i set myself a budget too, but in the end it ended up costing me twice what i originally thought lol

plus i couldnt fit my JBL GTi's in the door, so had to buy a set of MB Q-Lines, and in Aus, they put a dent in my budget to the tune of AUD $1800

i really like that PAC_SWIX device, do you have any info on it, where to purchase, price etc? Im planning on swapping over the 06 cruise control switches coz i like that they light up, wouldnt mind adding the radio buttons too if possible

there's a lot of info on this sticky:

https://my350z.com/forum/body-interior-exterior-and-lighting-diy/77855-diy-for-steering-wheel-removal-and-steering-wheel-audio-control-unit-install.html

and i paid exactly $47.95 on eBay...it's a little slow, you have to press the button for about a half a second for it to register and you it doesn't seem as if you can fast forward, only skip because i'm guessing it sends pulses and not a constant signal...if i'm wrong, please let me know because i'd love to be able to fast forward songs

again i'm not 100% sure if you can or can't...my installer said he didn't spend much time programming so perhaps you could

anyway, the kenwood remotes fit perfect in the center cup holders on the '06:

and perfect for the iPod Nano (the length of the nano fits exact so it won't move around at all and the door slides shut perfectly):
