Default Looking to upgrade stock speakers?...

I need to replace the cheap stock speakers in my 350Z, non Bose. I was wondering if there are any suggestions or advice when it comes to the type of speakers for the front/back. 2-way,3-way,4-way? I was looking into some 2-way speakers in the back because I believe they have more bass, and 3-way or 4-way in the front because they have more mids-high tones. Also planning on replacing the tweeters. Anyone think differently? If I went 2-way all the way around, how would it sound? Crutchfield has a buy one get one half off on the Polk Audio DB 650. Also, will I have any issues fitting 6.5" speakers in the front and back?

The general consensus for the Z seems to be the rear speakers are "fillers", meaning they don't have to be as nice as the front ones because of imaging reasons. I would go with some decent coaxials in the front which will come with tweets. Replace the rears with 2-ways or 3-ways and it'll sound fine. Doesn't sound like you're running an amp to anything. Sorry, don't know what problems you'll run into because I didn't install it myself. Read-up here on how-to's (install speakers):

I respectfully disagree...a good systems is only limited by your $$$. There are several high end speakers available. Just a matter of how important a good system is to you.

+1. I have Focal 165k2p's in the front and Focal coaxals in the rear.

The fronts are driven by a JL 300/2, the rears (and sub) by a JL 300/4.

Unbelievable sound reproduction!

You really don't need to replace the rears if you don't want.

Advise: Do not use the factory tweeter or sub locations. They suck. The tweets are way to far away from the mid's to be of any use and the sub will just give you a back massage.

The optimal location for a sub in the Z is rear facing. Mine is under the rear strut bar. The tweets should just be close to the main fronts.

Good luck!

I have hte feeling he is looking for something slightly below the realm of focal

focal are very very nice, but i persoanlly prefer the sound of morels and AVIs, both of which i had, my AVI tri-star set i simply adore

here is a japanese comparison between the focal utopia and avi bsm two way systems *ducks*

I replaced all 4 speakers, and like the sound from the back. Many people say the back is worthless, but I strongly disagree. I put the front ones in first and disconnected the back and I listened. Then I put the back ones in, and much better. I put an amp in the cubby hole behind the driver, and a 10" sub in a custom built box under the strut.

The front speaker swap will require you to use a spacer, otherwise the window will hit the magnet when you roll it down. You can get the spacer here:

Good luck.

get a new HU first, just speakers will only give a very marginal improvement. I speak from experience.

After a HU Replacement, THEN get good speakers.

IMO Speakers are the most critical part of any system.

The stock HU, amp, and speakers are all crap!
Fortunately there are lots of affordable options
to remedy the issue.

I am in the middle of upgrading my system in the garage.
Did you know the stock rears are a mutant 32ohms?!
The stock HU/amp does not have enough power
to crank up high fidelity 2ohm speakers.

Save up and do it right the first time.
I bought the system from www.woofersetc.com.
Great advice at a great price.

Good luck!

Thats actually not totally true. As long as you add an amp you can keep the factory HU and get very good results. You'll eventually want the new HU due to the fact there is very little bass/treble adjustment capability with the OEM unit.
