Hole Diameter measurement for Sub
I have ordered two JL Audio 8W3v2 subs and am preparing the box for them. Does anyone know the EXACT diameter hole I need to cut into the MDF? I checked the JL site but didn't see a measurement for this.
Maybe I'm just being overly perfectionistic about this but I am under the impression that the hole is not necessarily 8" for an 8" sub.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks,
DD

Well...
If the w3v2's are the same size as the JL's w3's, w6's, w0's, and w1's...the cutout size should be 7" in diameter. The width of an 8" JL speaker, including the basket is 8.25", so the hole should be as close to 7" as possible to maximize the size and rigidity of your baffle.
By the way, these should sound great in your Z...I personally am using a 10w6 or 10w6v2, but I haven't decided yet.

Thanks onecoolee, that's exactly what I needed to know.
One more question though... How deep are the other 8's you referred to? In other words, from under the lip to the end of the magnet in inches. My enclosures may be too shallow so I'll have to build them out more.
Thanks,
DD

Depth...
Diverdown:
Most 8" JL subs have a typical mounting depth of 4". This measurement does not include the thickness of your baffle, so the depth requirements are not too strict. If you are using w3v2's, I would say to leave at least 5" of total depth, just to be safe. Again, this measurement is from the top of the box (top of your mspeaker mounting baffle plate) to the bottom cover plate.
I hope this helps...
