Ported enclosure question...
Ok, so I decided to upgrade my current sub configuration. I have a sealed box that is 7 inches deep and a total of 1.3 cu ft of air space without the woofer. Just got off the phone with Rockford Fosgate tech support. There tech sez that I can reverse mount my T112D4, reverse the phase, and add a circular port. The port has to be 4 inches in diameter by 17 1/4 inches long. Does anyone any suggestions. I have never built a ported enclosure. I'm assuming the port doesn't have to be straight, meaning I can use an elbow to bend it. Do I assume right? Does the port have to fire into the listening area or can it fire into a space that is covered by something? (My box is built into the spare tire well and is covered by a false floor with the place mat on top of it.) All suggestions are welcomed. Thanks guys.

The port for the enclosure needs to be put on the same baffle or panel as the speaker cone is on. The whole point of the port is to re - enforce the sound wave coming off of the cone surface.

What is the shape of your box? When you get to talking about ported enclosures the design of the box adversely affects the port performance. The port should not have a bend in it if at all possible. More than likely your box that is built into your spare tire spot isnt going to be right for a ported enclosure.

the location of the port doesn't need to be on the same plane as the speaker. it's a better location, but others will work just fine. most ported fiberglass enclosures have the port in odd places. and you can also have a port with a bend.
