900$ for FGlass box??
OK guys, so I go this place in Cali. to compare prices on a box for [2] Alpine Type-R 1242D subs 12". They came up with 900$ wit vinil finish and installation of the amp, wiring and everything else. The box to fit under the strut bar and all the way to the end of the back plastic behind the seats. And of course I got to buy the Alpine amp and the 2 subs myself. So that's like 1,800. Does it sound about right??
Some input on my setup and the price greatly appreciated.
The breakdown:
2 Alpine type R 12" subs-----handles 200 to 500 watts----peak power 1,500
Alpine MRD-M1005----1,000 Watts x 1 @ 2ohms
FG box

yeah that price soundsa bout right, for quality stuff it runs, but let me tell you if there work is anywhere near what i think is quality you will never be sad you spent the money!!
Yikes! If this setup is to achieve competitive noise levels, those twin 12's will do some damage... to your hearing!
For ~$100 less you could get a 1.3cf Solid MDF twin box from zenclosures, with two 10W6 resulting in much better SQL! If you want it louder and clearer you could trade up to this awesome one-ohm stable amp: http://www.pecisionpower.com/amps/dcx1000.asp
Good luck.

PRZ,
From the AEoA's site a pair of 12s need >2x the volume (4cf!) of the 10s. Given the Z hatch space constraint is less, the 10s will have better dynamic SQL. These AEoA subs are extremely high power, 3kW/each! To accommodate this peak the MFG compromised their low power dynamic range. Do you want it sounding best in your Z or a block away?

honestly, i think two 10s isthe way to go in a Z if you go understrut, i think a lot of people put way too much emphasis on the difference between 10s and 12s.
from my experience, if you are using hte same model of subs, and you build each enclosure to spec, power them with the same kind of amp, and tune it right, there is not much sound quality difference between a 12 and a 10. the 12s will go a little lower with authority, and be a little louder, but hardly anyhting to write home about
i think two well installed 10s in a z could sound awesome and have a pretty flat repsonse down to 15-20hz no problem
