sorry if this is a repost, but i did see someone doing an additional screen in the dash becuase their N2 will not play dvds unless the car is stopped. and I posted this in the audio forum that i Moderate, so figured i would share

first of all, i want to say this, and i want to be VERY clear. DO NOT WATCH DVDS WHILE DRIVING. DONT DO IT!!!! JUST DONT!!! For your safety and mine, please do not use this bypass to do it.
What this does allow though, is that you can still change navi functions while driving, whcih i pesonally believe is the way it should be, say youa re driving downt he freeway, and all of a sudden, you remember you need to go to anotehr place, i dont think you must pull over, come to a stop, and then change the function. But on the newer pioneers, the N2 and the D1, this is what you must do, and unlike the N1, the safety is built into the gps antenna, thus the grounding the parking brake wire is useless.
so...this is how you by-pass it on the newer units, keep in mind that i have NOT personally tested this, but after reading it, i was able to confirm it with some of my installer freinds so here goes.
so here goes:
AVIC-N2 lockout bypass: Underneath the MAIN unit (not the hideaway) is a small silver sticker, peel this back. There are two contacts with the label "R197". Drop a bit of solder between these to connect them. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire.
AVIC-D1 lockout bypass: Find an extra Pioneer wire harness, and pull one of the wires out. Or, if you do not use the A.ANT lead, pull that out of the harness. In the AVIC-D1 harness, there is one open spot on the connector (next to the ground wire). Put the wire into the open spot on the connector, connect the other side to ground, then re-connect the plug to the AVIC-D1. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire (or connect to a toggle switch if you feel the need).

Thanks for posting this again - it seems like it's useful info. After having my AVIC-N2 active a few days, I've realized that some of the restrictions they have in place while driving don't make any sense. For instance, if the XM NavTraffic shows an accident or incident symbol, you can't get the description of the incident (which includes the travel direction!) when you're moving! Just to see that there's an incident on 101 doesn't help me that much So I don't intend to watch DVDs while I'm in motion - I just intend to use some of the features that only become useful while you're moving!
I actually have this on my list to do this weekend - I just bought a circuitwriter pen from Fry's not more than 30 minutes ago just for this task!

I just finished my Avid D1 install and have the following FACTS to add:
(Those "works for me" messages did not really convince me. Here are some details.)
1) Grounding the parking brake wire DOES work by itself. However, you still get the nanny message "Parking brake wired incorrectly."
2) Moving the "Cell phone Mute" wire to the open position (very easy to do with a needle nose pliers, I was surprised how easy) and grounding that also eliminated the nanny message. (Still get the other nanny screen about how dangerous NAV systems are.)
3) The black wire on the harness IS NOT HOOKED UP! I was using this first to no avail. (Thankfully, I had chosen to use the obvious chassis ground atop the console for my unit ground or I might have blown the thing up, relying on the wiring harness. I think the factory unit uses a chassis ground, as when fully installed, about 4 of the bolts holding the frame seem to go to chassis ground.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some NAVIGATING to do.

My N2 is bypassed and working just fine.

Just asked the installer about that.. he says it will void the warranty.. and he say he might break the thing when he do it, and he will not take any responsibility if the system is broken... so i decide not to ask him to do it..
But I really want to use the navi while the car is moving... what can i do??

i have installed over a dozen d1s and n2s, and all have worked great.
but...i always make people sign a waiver about not being responsible for any accident resulted from the usage of hte product.
but it does work fine

Instead of using solder at the two contact points on the N2, use conductive ink from Radio Shack. Those two contact points are very small and could easily burn off if you're not careful. I scraped away the protective wax on the board and used the conductive ink, worked like a charm.

i usually have customer haggle me to do this, however since i took the certi test with MECP i cannot after taking the oath! and i think its for the better, plus i cant tak the liability to bypass it
