I sold my Eclipse AVN2454 and was about to pull the trigger on the Pioneer AVIC D1 (or the new D2). However, after doing some research, I've found people complaining about the accuracy of the NAV unit.
Circuit City in particular has some very poor reviews about the NAV portion of the unit.
For those of you who own this, how bad is the NAV? I don't expect things to be perfect, but are things as bad as the reviews say?
I had no problems with the AVN2454 NAV, it didn't always give me the best route, but it wasn't a major inconvenience. If the D1 is as bad as they say I may just go with the newer Eclipse model.

From LA to Vegas to TJ and all in between ... my D1 was accurate enough that it would display to the second (@70mph) as I passed a freeway exit or cross street.
One thing you should realize with the Circuit City complainers is that they were most likely improperly (or shortcutted) installed by CC. You need to hook up the vehicle speed sensor wire (which we have) or buy an "gyro" for the car to make the navi 100% accurate.

mine works great. I have it bypassed so i can selected a destination on the go. Never failed to be accurate within 50 feet (estimate) when going on expresways. It's an awesome unit. Never let me down.
mine works great too...got a friend from best buy to get me a sweet discount. Got it for $950 plus i just received the $300 rebate so all in all for $650 it was the best headunit for the money. No problems with the the navigation either. Has been very accurate. I can set it yards and its sitll accurate
like ALL nav products, its not 100 percent perfect, but remember, nothing in life is, but even my old n1 with its original discs get me to where i need to go everytime

i doubt they will fall much below 950ish plus shipping, even for the warehouse ******...eventually, they will just sell out and then you are left with used ones...
at least thast the expereince with the n1 when the n2 was introduced

What bugs me about it, is the way they worked so hard to keep you from using the Navi on the road, but then the audio controls require so much attention to operate.
* Time display is miniscule and not on all screens
* Current track number is displayed, but not the name. You gotta find the number and look it up on the menu.
* No convenient physical Bass level control or loudness button. If you have an MP3 mix and need to make a quick adjustment it takes 3 levels of menus to change anything.
Navi part works great, though.
Also, my "animated" backgrounds don't animate. What's up with that?

I've got the AVIC N2 and it needs a period of time before it's inertial sensors are calibrated. If the Circuit City people are *****ing this might be the trouble. I installed mine in June of last year and they're still not calibrated ... really close but not yet even after I've put about 500 miles on then thing in the last 8 months. I guess I've got to get the thing on the road more often ... 'Vegas road trip!
Even now mine is dead nutz accurate. As I approach a stop light I'll cant the wheels in the direction of turn shifting the car body 5 degrees or so ... the display shifts the map to match perfectly.

How does the auido portion of the unit work??? What kind of sound do you get??
It sounded better than my old 860MP, and very similar to my older Alpine 7995.
I never use the internal amps of an HU .. always have external amps ... so I can't comment on that part.

I got the AVIC-D1 and I love the unit. I think that a big part of the acc. is the location of the antenna. I have mine on the strut bar (windows are dark and you cant see it) and I have never had a problem. The sound that I get from the factory speakers is much improved, and the sound control that you get is great! nothing but positive comments for the D1.
