Oh noes! Did i blow my Head unit?
Help guys... I've been working on a super secret project for about a week. Project Z-PC, an integrated computer in the Z. Here's a little background on what i think happened.
First, I followed the tutorial for making an AUX in from here:
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ight=tape+deck
Had that setup for probably a month, without issues. Hooked my pocket PC up to it and everything sounded fantastic the entire time.
The other night I hooked it all up for the first time. much to my delight, windows loaded up as planned. I got a few errors, which I expected as I hadn't reconnected all my devices. One error did bother me though. "A USB Device attached to the usb port is using more power than it should." I rebooted, and just kept getting "USB Device malfunctioning." The only device that wasn't working was my external Creative Labs NX2 sound card, so it had to be that. I unplugged some USB cables, unplugged and replugged in the power to the sound card, messed around with the headphone jack a bit, and got a couple REALLY loud pops in there...
In any case, when i first started the system up, I remember listning to the CD player and radio on the head unit and it seemed to sound fine, but when I was about to go inside for the night, after giving up on the sound card, the sound was horribly clipping from all levels. The volume does raise and lower but the sound is extremely clipped... definitely audible, something is DEFINITELY wrong.
What could it be?? I completely unhooked the PC last night... from the ground, everything, but it still does it. It HAS to be in the head unit somewhere, right? What do you audio pros think it could be? and if I need a new head unit, what's a good alternative for the Z? Keeping in mind all I really need is a good sound.. features etc will be driven from the PC.
