even with the new Covette, you still need to put your key in. If not, anyone can get in, push and drive off your car.

Unless, you are doing the fingerprint push and have the key install hidden somewhere to bypass the system (just like remote start)

also my brother has the brand new lexus IS350, you dont have to have the key in to use the push start. he keep his key in his pocket the whole time. dont even need to take his keys out to open the door. It has what you could call true keyless entry. just get close to the car, and it unlock. Just like sl500

I had an 05 avalon that had the smart key - basically wireless encryption between the keyfob and the car. So when the key fob was around 4-5 feet from the car you could unlock and start the car by pressing a button. Honestly it was really cool at first and then I started to miss the correlation between turning the key and hearing the engine start and that was with a very quiet engine. Don't know just something about turning the key that I enjoy much more.

Smile done this mod

Dear all,

Unfortunately my Z is already not delivered but I have installed a start button in my Peugeot convertible. The issue there was to ensure that is not possible to pus the button while the engine is running. I managed this with an electronic protection circuit.

For the German version you don’t need a protection circuit because it is only possible to start the engine when the clutch pedal is pushed.

I bought the button at an electronic shop for round about 5 bugs. And it is made out of stainless steel. I replaced the cigarette lighter (don’t know the correct word).

For the Z I am working on a installation instruction.

If anybody is interested in the installation instruction for the Peugeot, just let me know.Sorry, it is only in German available.

Looking forward for your answers.

Christian from Germany!!

Here is a good how to about doing it to a BMW.

Another BMW example

I like the look of this button, that is why I purchased it.

Good work Christian! I was scratching my head looking at the pic until I read that it wasn't in a Z. Here in the US as well, the clutch has to be pushed to start the car, so protection circuit won't be needed here either.

Thumbs up

Looks also very nice. What is the price for the Z8 button?
You don’t have to use a large washer to mount it into the existing hole.

Where are you guys planning on installing yours? I am thinking of fabricating a cover for the lower din opening of the HU install kit (I was gonna do that anyway...hate that opening) and installing the start button to the left and either the V1 display (flush) or the parrot bluetooth LCD to the right.

I got very good news today: my Z will arrive at my dealer next week. So I can go on planning my mod’s.

For the button I will drill a hole next to the switch for the hazard warning light. I thing this is a good place.
