Default Q. about a Capacitor

What’s a good Capacitor to use for a 500.1 JL amp?

if that's all you're running is 1 JL500 you don't need one. Infact... it'll really only hurt your system. Just add another load that power has to go through. Just make sure you've got a decent battery and you should be fine.

So my 5F (smallest Alumapro that fits under the seat) is overkill for 700W.
It's a PITA to connect/charge after battery reconnects....

actually alumapro makes a 1 farad that should fit under there just fine. Infact I've got a brand new one... never installed, still in the plastic if someone wants to buy it.

All caps are basicly the same. I like stinger the best, but thats the main cap brand we sell so I could be just use to them. Anyway the normal suggestion is 1f per 1000watts, and it will do nothing but good.

Keeping the shortest possible fat leads to the sub power amp is key to the maximum capacitor performance. Lead/connector inductance negates capacitor performance. Not all caps are equal, those with lower ESR rating perform the same with fewer farads. That 1F Alumapro will make you happy.

I got the 500X1 Jl audio amp in my '05 Z and I have never even seen anything dim!! there have SLIGHT changes in voltage as displayed on the inst. cluster but that is it. I think you should put the money elsewhere.

oh by the way... just got home... man... 15 hours at work is way too much

Anyway... so it's actually a 5 Farad... and now that I think about it... I'm not sure Alumapro even makes a 1 farad cap... but I could be wrong. Anyway, same price if you're interested. I think it lists for about $300. Or if someone else wants it, PM me for my paypal addy.

You really don't want a cap with that 500.1. It's got regulated power rails, so the cap is pointless, except maybe for bling.

i have one 2 farad for my 300/4 and one 2 farad for my 500/1 amp. I know this is overkill but cap is not that expensive aniway.

Dunno... I could be wrong but I think once you add another load like a cap, it won't matter if it's a 1 farad or a 50 farad. And since your system wouldn't drain either, you could use either. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

If I were you I'd try changing out your battery to a good deep cycle one like an Optima yellowtop. Then if you're still having problems, maybe take a look at an upgraded alternator. Then if you're still dimming out... get a cap.

Though really based on your system, unless you've got a lot more other things running too, you shouldn't be dimming or losing that much power. There could be a bad cell in the battery or something with your alt. If either is the case a cap won't help.
