Exclamation MP3 Capability on Standard Radio?

I'm getting an 06MT6 w/ the 160 watt system not the bose. Does the standard system play cd's with mp3's on them???

If not, howbout the bose on the touring edition??

Non-Bose does not play mp3s. Touring will, as it comes with Bose.

So the one with the single CD in the 06 will not play MP3's? Only the BOSE?? That bites.

How about this as a side question:

If I upgrade the factory radio, can I wire it so that the steering wheel controls work for the new unit? I would assume that this would depend on the capabilities of the new unit but curious if anyone got that to work and on which stereo?

THX

Yes you can. Read this: https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/181976-steering-wheel-controls.html

If all you want is MP3 capability, a $300 (or less) aftermarket head unit will do the trick. How happy will those MP3's make you when your legs are stuck to the leather seats?

Hahaha, good one. Yeah, I actually like the cloth, and living in Vegas, the heat and leather will kill ya. Anyway, I might be able to live with the stock system til I get the bug to mod the audio system.

<vent>grrrr, it's 2006 and auto mfr's still don't put a 3.5mm aux-input on the front of the head unit for iPods, etc.</vent>

Anyway... if you want to integrate an iPod, the non-Bose stereo has a big advantage. You can buy an aftermarket iPod interface that lets your HU control the iPod *from the HU buttons*, as well as the steering wheel buttons! The interface emulates an external CD changer. The Bose 6-disc HU cannot do this! Search the audio forum for "iPod" for more info.

Not true. Bose HU's can do that as well with PAC interface module AAI-NIS2, as long as they have factory sat. radio.

Unfortunately, the AAI-NIS2 provides only aux-input, not control. None of the iPod interfaces currently available provide iPod *control* from the Bose HU or steering wheel buttons. It is a Bose limitation.
