Well, after careful consideration and shopping I've completed my system.

Now the installation begins.

I'm going the kick panel route instead of doors, no fiberglass, just MDF and a hopefully a solid install. I'm not going to compete or anything. I bought black OEM automotive carpet from partsexpress.com, and completed the rough templates tonight.

I've always liked Infinity and Image Dymanics, and decided on Infinity for this car. Honestly, the speaker build is pretty damn good. Small neodynium magnet, 2 ohm impedance, surround protector, and woven cone.

In my old car I had horns....

For a second, I thought the midbass has been installed right there below the pedals! The templates look good! Post the finished pics when you're done.

Hey guys...almost finished my system this weekend. The sound is absolutely fantastic - I'm glad I decided on the kickpanel route instead of the door.

Imaging is dead-on center of the dash/hood, and the kicks "almost produce" rear fill, it's tough to explain. Especially with live recordings, like Dave Mathews...I swear some sound comes from behind me.. They easily hold their own against the 12" sub.

Seriously, anyone can make these kicks...I just used cardboard and kept making templates until I had the panel at the correct angle. Then I used 1/4 MDF, screwed that to the car, and mounted the drivers. Passenger kick is on axis and drivers is slightly off.

one advantage of kicks is having an enclosure be4hind them gives a much more controled and clean midbass response, these tpyes of kicks you built still give a nice staging and imaging effect, but from experience, they are better for midrange and tweet becuase they usually dont give as good of a midbass return

Good job! It looks like a pro's work! I would consider that option if I wasn't sure that my 13" feet will obliterate the components within a day...

 

hehe is that a dare? i bet i can built you a set of kicks and give you a year to see if your size 13 feet will go throgh it hehe, i have size 12.5 and have never gone through anyhting hehe

solid mdf and fiberglass plus heavy duty grills make it pretty tough

sealed kicks also cut down on the low end volume....but damn you get some control

 

I suppose the midbass can be a little better, but's it certainly not bad given the project scope.

I have a few demo discs that I used in tuning (telarc ) and I was surprised at the Kappa's output.

One thing to note....I was a little worried that given the 2 ohm impedance of the components and bridging the rear to the sub might make the amp run scalding hot, but it's all good.

 

good to hear, thought i am not a fan of kappas, one thing i do admit that they do have is a abundance of midbass
