anyone here running active?
I considered it but since I haven built competent kick panels... I don't want to deal with phase issues. If find another amp between now and June 20th I will be going active but I highly doubt it. But if I do that I will be tempted to pick up some Seas drivers...
in my old car i ran full active on several components.
the advantage of active IMO is:
1. more power reaching the spealres obviously as you no longer have power sapping crossovers
2. more tunability
disadvantage:
1. you must have a really food crossover to do this well
2. the tunabiltiy thing comes back and haunts you since its hard to adjust things precisely and it takes a lot of time to get it right.
some people swear by it, some people could care less, i am one of those who would do active if i had the budget, but its not a big deal to me, i would considering going full active on my current setup in my new car, but the bigger amp i wanted was too big
so i went with just passive and it sounds fine to me

I "tested" a fully active front stage in my Z ~ 3 years ago. Klipsch 6.5" mids and a 1" Ti Tweeter in a molded tractrix horm ... QSC DSP-4s ran the whole setup.
It sounded great, but in all honestly ... the passive networks we did were damn close to identical in sound quality. I decided not to buy all the extras needed to run that active setup (the QSCs were on "loan") so I returned it and enjoyed my passive networks for years.
Is it better? Yes
Is it worth it? No
Don't worry about lossy networks bing ... that is the last of our worries in car audio .. most cars "usually" have more power availible than any midbass could ever handle. This is more a concern in home audio, where amp headroom power is limited.
Also .. tuning these networks can be a royal pain unless you are setup like Pauls350Z or have a sound lab at your disposal

I love my active setup. Sony x1, a/d/s amp and speakers. This is in my other car, and I am doing the same with the roadster, except speakers are focal k2p and I still have yet to buy a sub. Install should be done next week, if I have the time to finish it.
I will be running active here before long. I have the ivaw200 with the H701 for control. I have 2 jl 300/2's I will be running on the Polk SR 6500's. I am working on a plexi amp rack and sub boxes before I really start the fun stuff.
