why MB QUART QSD 216 so expensive?
Well .... off the top of my head
1) Cast woofer basket
2) Ti Powdercoated cone
3) Neo Motor
4) Alum Heatsinking in the XO
5) Alum Tweeter basket
6) Ti Dome
7) Hand Assembled somewhere more expensive than China
8) They sound phenomenal!
9) Because they know people will pay for it.

Because MB Quart is a german engineered speaker company that has many many sucessful deisgns that have been in cars that have won countless world championships. This is their flashship speaker line and they do not care how much they cost to build them. They build them the best they can and know if you are serious about buying them you wont be making a post like this and fork over the cash because great audio costs money.
Wow ... thanks for that worthless post ... nice attack on a guys just asking a question. Try and throw out a few more facts next time instead of a rude statement like this.

JUST FYI...
MB Quart works on maybe 60% markup.
These speakers to employees are right under the $450 mark.
Good speakers, smooth compared to the usually harsh mb quart lineup. I like them but they lack detail compared to my DLS setup.

I have successfully competed with them for years, they are one of the VERY BEST speaker sets in existence for a car system. Nearly Flawless if installed Correctly and backed up with the appropriate electronics.
Paying $1500 will get you a full warranty from an authorized dealer. Most people purchase them from reputable shops for $600 to $800.
NOTE: There is a grey market, so buyer beware. I would say 99% of people that don't like the QSD's purchased a counterfeit product. Buying from an authorized dealer is the only way to be sure.
THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY.
PM me if you want details on how to set them up right.

Have a look, or better yet, have a listen to a home theater sub-woofer like the SV Sound PB-12 "ultra" sub-woofer for a few hundred dollars less than that speaker driver alone and tell me what you hear.
I am good friends with Deon Bearden as well as Tom V ... Deon (my old roommate) being the main contributor the the dB-series woofers
SVS is a phenomenal company, offering great products at great prices .. but I assure you, they are not working on the same 5x margins than Klipsch, Pioneer and other places I have worked are.
In all honesty though, a low-distortion subwoofer is "easy" to design becase you are for all intents and purposes always operating in the pistonic range of that transducer. Tame the inductive rise, minimize drive and suspension non-linearities, and keep that port noise down .... bam, you have a KILLER system.
Bubble,
MB isn't marketing at you ... this is a Halo product ... much like a Ford GT or Z06 .. money well spent in marketing and selling these (agued by some as the best 2-way comps bar-none). It a trickle-down effect into the sales of the lesser models in that they hopefully have some inherent "Genetics" of the high-end line.

What is not mentioned is that they have not been a German company for a while now. Rockford Fosagate purchased them a few years ago and Maxxsonics purchased them last year. If I am not mistaken they are being made somewhere in Asia now.

As stated above .. these are low volume comp sets (and quite exclusive) .. ebay is not the place to find anything other than some grey market knock-offs or rejects .... caveat emptor my friend
