I'm off Thurs so will most likely do this then! Will post my results as soon as I'm done. One thing to keep in mind for those that are going to do this, the true test will be while using the Radio!!! Try that for alittle before going to a CD, that is where its most noticeable!

It seems I may have spoke too soon!
On the way home from work the stereo started acting up! The volume would raise then lower. Also, at lower volumes the sound was still heavy on the bass. These effects were so intermittent that it would lead you to believe that some connection was loose.
So, when I got home I checked things out and found the resistor wasn’t secure. I used a new resistor and this time folded the legs in half to give them more thickness before plugging it in. Then secured it down with electrical tape.
I will give you the low down tomorrow to see if it really worked.
BTW, since I have done this procedure a couple of times now, it only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to do. ;-)
Also, my amp is pre TSB. I purchased my car in 10/02. I even had the TSB before my Service Manager!!! He's like, "how'd you get that?"

Wow, great fold job on that resistor... hehe
Sorry you are the guinea pig for several others, but I am sure a few are following this thread closely...as well as me, b/c I still have my doubts.
I will continue to watch the thread, and I am curious what shakes out tomorrow on your commute.

Get some plugs of the mic side form, solder this buggers behind it, wrap them in heated rubber or seal them and sell them as a plug-in to solve the problem for $5 or so.
Instructions : unplug the mic, plug this sucker in, problem solved."
You will sell one for almost every Z-Bose out there...

that is sooooooooooo true! put me down for one!
Remove mic, and replace it with an amp ? Where did this fix come from ? Not from Bose or Nissan...
No, the fix has always been to replace the factory amp with a new amp, which is less sensitive to the audio pilot mic...
The TSB only covers replacing the amp, and no modifications are made to the mic at all. Without the mic, the audio pilot would not function properly...see my post above.

Which songs have you noticed really bad bass overboosting?
The one that really stands out is the Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow song....It's really unbearable and they play it on the radio all the time. Doesn't help that the song stinks too.
I am pre-TSB fix too...I think either I've gotten really used to the bass or my system is getting better. But rarely now do I just cringe when listening to the radio anymore.
Hope I can tell the difference when I do try out the fix.

Yes. I believe I lot of people have taken them up on it.
I have one sitting at the dealer with my name on it...but I'm not sure I want to change it yet.
Heard of a lot of people losing almost all their bass after the 'fix'.

i've heard similar result of loosing bass control from the head unit... I have trouble to believe a factory fix will result in more problem....but it's the car business.....

I am happy to report that the resistor fix is still working well. The problem I was having before was due to a poor connection.
DEATH TO AUTO PILOT!!!
At (0) Bass, (0) Treble, the system is still way too “boomy” for me and I do like Bass, just realistic and hi-fidelity bass.
At (-2 or -3) Bass, and (+1) Treble, the system is almost bearable.
Please continue to post your opinions and experiences.

just came back from the dealer... they tell me the audio fix is to replace the Bose amp located in the back... Nissan will replace it with another Bose amp that has LESS base..... So, you WILL loose base with the new amp....
no comments on the factory fix.....
looks like the complete gutting out is the only solution.....

My local dealer ordered the replacement amp and installed.
CD wasn't a problem (for me). Radio was unbearable. To listen to the radio I had to go -4 bass +3 treble and still would switch back to CD after a few minutes.
Now, after TSB amp, I can keep +2 bass +2 treble most of the time and switch between radio and CD no problem and sounds ok. Still a little too much bass when on radio, but can live with it.
Volume up/down is still around, specialy at volumes under 15 or so. It gets annoying, so I will try this fix this weekend for the volume up/down issue.
With the TSB-amp I have had to raise my volume a little. I used to listen at 18 or so, now I hang out at 20 to 22... Sounds very good at 24!
As many have said, the TSB-amp helped. The volume changes are still annoying. If this fix gets rid of that, I will be fairly happy.

That is exactly what this little fix does – it negates the Auto Pilot volume changes and still lets the amp operate.
It doesn't make the p.o.s amp sound any better, that is for sure!

I had tried disconnecting the mic and using the resister prior to getting the new amp, both tests failed.
See:https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&pagenumber=2
After getting the new amp I was disappointed with the bass response like many others on the board. Figuring I had nothing to loose I tried disconnecting the mic again about a week after the amp swap. This time it did stop the AudioPilot adjustments without the previous problems with "floating volumn". I decided to leave it disconnected for that reason.
After a couple of days I noticed that the bass seemed to be better than before. After a week it seemed much better. I think that it may have taken a few hours without the mic for the system to re-adjust or revert to default mode. I am happy with the sound now, I keep bass at +2 and treble at -1. The sound now seems as good as better factory stereo (except for the Mark Leveinson in the Lexus's, Lexi?, but that is like a $5000 option).
I was somewhat happy after the amp swap but after this "mod" I am satisfied with the system.
