Default speaker sound problem (DLS speakers JL AMPS)

Hey guys I wanted to get some feedback about my trouble. Basically, my speakers currently sound like crap.. like literally.. CRAP. Let me give you an idea of what I am currently running:

JL 1000/1 amp powering 2 JL 10w6v2 subs
JL 450/4 amp powering DLS up6 components front and DLS 426 coaxials rear.
Headunit is Kenwood DDX-8017.

So basically, the sound coming from my speakers sound VERY distorted, ESPECIALLY the vocals. But it is not only the vocals, it is everything else too, but more so the vocals. In addition, it gets worse and worse the louder I go. I dont know what the problem is.. is it the Head unit? Speakers? The Wiring? The amps? It's really pissing me off big time since i spent so much damn money on the system. The sound basically sounds muffled (kind of) at high volumes like the speaker cant handle it or something.. its hard to explain. I guess "distorted" would be the best word. Please help!

Your amp's gain might be turned up too loud. Disconnect all of the RCAs. Now, turn the gains to zero on the 1000/1. Connect the sub RCAs and turn the head unit up about 75%. Turn the gain on the amp until you start to hear popping in the subs, once you hear popping, turn the gain down a little...make sure to turn it down, b/c if your subs try to go low and the gain is set too high, they are going to pop and bottome out. Now disconnect the sub RCAs and do the same with the DLSs. Turn the gain up until you hear distortion and then turn it down until the distortion goes away.

Or you could take it to a shop and pay them to tune it...which will give you the best results. With distortion I'm guessing a) gains set improperly...that's usually it, b) a short in the wire...some wires might be getting crossed...or c) you need to reground everything...if it's both the subs and the surrounds, I would look at the head unit shorting or the gains being set improperly. With that head unit and those amps, the gains should barely be turned up.

Not to sound rude but, welcome to the club! My speakers are sounding like crap as well, but I strongly believe its a connection problem...I'm taking it to a shop on saturday....thank god. Good luck man.

Default GND or Connection Problem

Looks like it may be a Connection Problem, Check that all Ground are Clean, no Plastic or bad connections, Check the Break Wires inside,...just bend them a bit and see if you feel some movement.

Also the 1000/1 output 1000 RMS @ 1.5ohms, You are running the 10W6s in parallel (4 ohms each = Aprox 2 Ohms) this will put you in the "Danger Zone" operation of the Subs.

Check also for Power (12 +/-), The JL 100/1 could be taking Power away from the overall system and leaving the other amp with a poor operation. look for Dimming lights or any signal of Power dropping down.

If you want, I can check your amp ... prolly give you a birthsheet for it if you want.

I wouldn't doubt that there is a bad amplifier in the chain here somewhere. That ... or a bad head unit.

This is just speculation for now ... I'll have to check it out for ya
