Question about an Ipod connection
Hello,
I am new to this board, and I have a question. I have a 2006 350z GT and would like to know if any one knows if there is a way to have a Ipod conection. One stereo outlet in San Jose, CA said they do have one but I will lose the cd changer. I do not have a navigation system, so what is the best solution?
Thanks for your input,
Rick

I believe PAC is the company that makes an adapter to convert one of the inputs on your stock radio (changer) to an Aux input.
Its about 100.00 + installation.
Honestly your best solution would be to eject that stock radio. Aftermarket radios can add tons of connection options and sound much better than the stock head unit. MP3 and WMA compatability is better than haing a changer anyhow and is a standard feature now on all the radios except for some of the entry level models.
I have to disagree with the wireless option, too many interfering signals step on your broadcast to FM stations. Its ok in a pinch but lousy as a long term solution. just my .02

i might be wrong but arent 04 and up Zs prewired with satelite radio? if you have a SAT button then you have it.. it is just a matter of finding that wires to splice for the input.. on Nissan Murano you only need a 3.5mm stereo jack from Ipod to the Sat input.

Yes they are prewired for satellite, Nissan/Bose satellite. You cant just splice in whatever component you like, its not that simple. The connections on the radio are not universal RCA jacks for inputs, the PAC unit connects to the stock stereo's SAT or CD Changer inputs, and converts them to RCA Inputs.

I did the simple connection like you are speaking of. It was for an aftermarket stereo in my explorer. Basically they are using that AUX input that would normally go out to the CD changer. It has worked like a charm.
If you are using an Ipod, you will never ever miss that CD changer.
$100 is a decent price. They have to have an adaptor and then another cable with stereo jacks that plugs into it (I used Monster). Ad the labor and $100 sounds good.
Go for it...if you trust them.

I heard only the 2004.5+ has the ability to switch to AUX when you connect the PAC product. The 2003 and earlier 04s don't have that capability. That's what was said in a thread similar to this a while ago. Can anybody confirm that ALL 350Z Bose stereo has the ability or not?

I have seen some nice custom setups of people putting mp3 players in cars, most just use a 3.5mm stereo jack that plugs into the headphones. This provides a LOT better sound quality than an FM transmitter.

Being that you have the Grand Touring trim, it means you likely have the Bose 6CD changer system.. correct?
If so, then according to my research, you will lose your remote CD changer capability since the Bose HU does not have any other AUX inputs... in other words, your local stereo shop would be correct.
Go to the following website to find out for yourself... http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/PA11NIS.html
You can also go to http://www.pac-audio.com/app_guide/appguide.htm
to see what they have available.
These are only two units I know of
