Question Bose "Radio Data System" (RDS)

I tried searching for this . . . but I couldn't find it.

Does anyone know how to set this? I can't make sense out of the manual. It seems you are supposed to be able to set certain stations to display "rock", "country", "talk", etc. and then to be able to "seek" these stations by these program types . . .

After reading many, many posts about the Bose system here, I realize most of you dislike it. I have the "CD6" system with the seven speakers, etc. and there's the "PTY" button for "program type". Do you have to select a station, then hold down several buttons at the same time, or what?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

intersted to learn about this as well...can anyone chime in??

Also, is there a way to keep the song and station info displayed at all times or does it have to go back to it's normal display after a few minutes?

Noah,

I reset everything by disconnecting the battery. This seemed to help. Now when a radio station is playing, if I hit the "Display" button it will show the name of the station, and sometimes the name of the artist and the name of the song. This depends on the station istself and can vary.

This display will NOT stay on all the time though. If you keep hitting the "display" button, the system will think you are trying to reset the clock.

I still cannot figure out how to set the system for seeking "PTY" (program type).

All best,
Joe

RDS data is provided by the broadcaster who labels his station's call letters, music type, and lists the artist and name of song. Special receivers can receive and display this data. Television has a similar type of metadata called XDS (eXtended) which will display the name of the show, time of day, station name, and time remaining in the show. This data is sent along with the closed captioning and V-chip rating data.

You can hit the PTY button, select Country, Rock, J***, etc...then hit the scan button. The system should scan for a station that meets the music type and start playing.

The bigger question I have is what the hell is the Audio Pilot setting???

Thank you!

I misuderstood how the system worked, and thought you had to set each station you already had saved on your system with a "program type" first.

All best,

This RDS is pissing me off....I want to keep the RDS data scrolling.
Is there not a way to "lock" the display to show RDS data all the time?

In my wife's 04 Armada with the Bose head unit with RDS, you hit the display button and it will toggle between the normal station frequency or the RDS data scroll (Station ID, frequency, singer, song title) as long as that station is RDS enabled. I think it is a glitch in the radios. All other Nissan's that I have seen with RDS keeps the RDS displaying.
