This may seem silly but...
I have been thinking of dynamatting my car to stop the rattleing my stereo produces. While I realize that this process will stop the vibration, there is another side effect I hasve never condsidered. Will the matting drown out the entire exhaust sound? I am looking foward to a Borla system when it comes ouyt but want to be able to hear it. I have no experience with dynamat and would appreciate any help someone might be able to give.
Thanks in advance.
Joe.

I dynamatted my previous car with a ton of dynamat. I took up the seats and carpet and used two layers all the way through. Dynamat doesn't really get rid of the exhaust sound. It gets rid of higher frequency sounds such as rattles. If you look at some webpages it will show you the frequencies that it is good at reducing, mainly higher frequencies. Since the exhaust note is usually lower, it doesn't have much of an effect on it.
I can't totally agree...
I used a product with the same specifications as Dynamat Extreme in my Z install. I put about 30 sqft of a sound dampening material called FATMAT in my hatch, and about 20 sqft in the compartments behind the seats and doors. I can barely hear the stock muffler at all now. It is very quiet with little engine sound, less road noise, and little muffler sound--the way a touring car should be. Nissan's factory sound deadening material is subpar, or non-existent, so adding this stuff does quiet your ride significantly, but if you want to be able to hear your new cantelope launcher muffler, you may not want to upgrade with sound dampening material...
I personally prefer others to hear my muffler, and not myself, and when I am cranking my stereo, there's nothing worse than hearing rattling panels...
Here is my almost finished fiberglass sub enclosure (custom match carpet on order)...all work done by me...
