Unhappy Bose system and an IPOD

I just got a nice used roadtser the other day. I have the Ipod Nano, and am addicted to it. My wife hase the Itrip FM transmitter for hers, and I don't like that set up. The guy at best buy said the tape player set up is worse!? I thought it would sound better!?

Anyway, is there a way I can hook in to the system with some type of harness in the back or is there an RCA jack I don't see?

I would recommend just using the FM transmitter, I have tried all sorts of hook ups for MP3 players and by far the easiest is the fm transmitter. The tape will definitely reduce the sound quality by the way. :-)

PAC sells a AUX out adapter for our car. I used it to hookup my sirius radio for better quality but you can also hookup an ipod to it. costs about $75

to be more specific http://www.audioallies.com/getitem.a...AI-NIS2&Sys=FR
the part number is PAC AAI-NIS2. I guess froogle it for the best price, it is "CD like" sound quality and seems to be around the same price as the staticy fm transmitter

In the seven months that I've owned my car, I've always played my iPod through the stereo using a cassette adapter. Sure, you have tape hiss, but the overall sound quality is better than any I've experienced with FM transmitter.

But as others have suggested, playing an iPod through an auxiliary connection is probably the best option in terms of sound quality.

I have the FM transmitter as well as the tape adapter. I think the adapter gives you louder and clearer sound. It’s difficult to find an FM frequency with no interference.

an AUX out wouldn't help him, unless you mean AUX IN

The FM transmitter is frustrating if you live anywhere close to a major metropolitan area. If you have a few stations on your FM dial that dont have stations, especially in a row... then u might love it.

My friend does the cassette and I prefer it 10X more. There is a SLIGHT depreciation in sound quality, but only turned all the way.. and my uneducated guess is that the quality of the audio file is a major factor in this too, higher bitrate better it wil sound in any car setup regardless.

The PAC/AUX options are the best bet but definitely cassette over transmitter IMO.

I bought the monster I-Cruze because they ran a special for the kit lincluding the display for 150 instead of 300 due to error for free install. Its a digital connection but only issue is that it can only control 6 playlists and 99 songs at a time, any song after 99 is done automatically. The system allows you to retain your steering wheel controls, charges the ipod without overcharging, and it shows you what song is playing

FM transmitters suck. Only good way to get ur iPod to work with decent sound clearity is through a tapedeck. However, if you're like me, you have no tapedeck. So I just use MP3 cds and call it a day.

Tape adapter is definately better than any FM transmitter (i have both) and the sound quality is very close to CD. The FM transmitters have too much static. Their signal strength would be better if it wasn't for FCC regulations limiting their range. Go with the tape adapter

Get a Harman Kardon Drive + Play. It uses a FM modulator so you get much better sound than the FM transmitter crap. it also comes with a little monitor to mount on the dash so you can see what songs are playing and you get a controller you can mount on the console that has the same fuctions as an ipod. Since the 03 bose cannot be connected directly with the ipod, this is the best cost effective option besides getting a new head unit. And remember that if u have a nav, by changing the head unit, you lose the navigation voice.

you can always get an aftermarket head unit that has an input for the iPod. The interface on my Alpine is perfect.

Thanks guys for the help here! Good advice and more responses than I thought I'd get. I like the idea of that Aux. plug but I guess turbosteve brought up the in/out issue I have to try and figure out. I'll go to the site and see what I can find out. If not, it sounds like the cassette option over the transmitter for me!

The Aux. pack looks like it will work. Says you need the SAT radio set up, but my system doesn't have that. Guess I'll call them and see if it will still work.

Nice link, but I don't see the 350Z as an application? I would think it should work for a Z, but they have a lot of their models listed, so I have to call.

I just dealt with this for my wife's 3-series. She has the FM transmitter thing for her iPod and the sound quality was not acceptable for either of us. Yes, it works but the fidelity is totally lost.

We went to Circuit City and they had a $70 adapter that they installed into the rear of the HU and ran the cable up and out of a discrete place in the dash. So now my wife just plugs in the iPod and gets fantastic quality compared to the other options we tried.

Does the Bose HU have RCA inputs? If so, $200 including parts and labor and about an hour at Circuit City and you're all set.

No RCA inputs, that's the problem! Did your wife's have RCA jacks? I'm confused. It sounds like it didn't and they added one from Circuit City? Or she had one and you paid money for what?
