JBL VS. Directed Amp
hey guys...I need to get a 5 ch amp, i was looking at JBL 755.6 II or the Directed D2205. I don't know much about all the power ratings and need help choosing which one i should get. i have 1 15" Image Dynamics sub and kenwood dpx-701 HU. Any help would be great. thanks.
JBL: 560 Watt 6-Channel Power Amplifier
• The GTO755.6 II's high output MOSFET power supply ensures optimum power delivery into numerous impedances with low distortion.
• The 755.6 II comes outfitted with three variable 12dB per octave electronic crossovers allowing you to optimize system tuning based on speaker location and accompanying loudspeaker components.
60 watts RMS x 4 channels + 107 watts RMS x 2 channels
at 4 ohms and ≤ 1% THD + Noise
160 watts x 2 + 300 watts x 1 at 4 ohms, 14.4V supply and ≤ 1% THD + N2
Directed D2205 5 Channel Stereo Amplifier: 2200 watts
*High speed MOSFET switching power supplies
*Built-in high performance, variable12dB/octave 2 way active crossovers
*Switchable 8 dB bass EQ function
CEA Primary Power (power into 4 ohm, all channels driven, 14.4V supply ≤ 1% THD+N) 80W x 4, CH 1-4
CEA Primary Power (power into 4 ohm, all channels driven, 14.4V supply ≤ 1% THD+N) 280W x 1, SUB
(Good luck with getting 14.4 volts out of your battery!
)
The Directed amplifier might be a nat's *** louder with it's "extra" 20 watts per channel in the front and 20 watts less in the subwoofer as you're much more likely to notice the extra 1 dB in the front (possibly on a good day and if you have formally trained ears and listening to a constant tone source).
Coin toss really. At least JBL was a close in their power ratings but I like the Directed as I think it's more pretty looking.

based on past and some present experince with both cmpnaies, like paul said, its a toss up, honestly, you arent going to notice the extra 20 rated watts with your ears.
i personally would go with whcih ever one looks better and/or is cheaper to you
but an id 15, not sure which one you have, would bgenefit from about 200 more watts than either of those can dish out
but it will still sound fine

I had the Crossfire VR705d in my system in my Xterra running Boston Acoustics SL60's bi-amped with the 4 front channels and a Boston Acoustics G51044 subwoofer. This amp is a powerhouse in the 5-ch amp arena, puts out more than rated power at 14.4v. Stays cool too. You can find it for $450-ish.

thanx guys, i ended up getting the directed one after talking with few local shops and got a really good deal on it. Just have to install it now to find out how it sounds. I had a JBL b4 this it fried, so i think directed would be a better choice and it looks a lot cleaner. thanks for the input
how a system sounds in the end in myhonest opinion:
90 percent installation technique
5 percent how good the front speakres are
3 percent how the interior of the car is like
2 percent rest of the equipment lol
not accounting of course for junk equipment of course
so basicalyl, get a good install!

basically my point is given the same equipment and the same car, you can get vastly different results depending on how well and where the things are installed
