I have a base HU audio and cant find a diagram of the back of the HU. I know courtesy parts sells a add on CD changer for the base HU. My question is how have you guys been getting your sound into the HU, I'd really like to hard wire it if possible instead of using a FM modulator. Has anyone been successful in doing this so far?

 

Not possible...

There are no RCA inputs into the factory head unit, and no way to switch between sources. Your only option is to add an FM modulator, or to replace your factory head unit...

 

I heard these P.I.E. cables sound pretty good.

They don't make them for the 350Z. I'm sure if they get enough inquires and they know there is a market for them they might be willing to make them.

I put in two e-mails to them a while back. they responded and said not at this time.

It's a pretty new type of cable (I think)....they don't have any Nissans listed.

I wonder how hard it is to make one of theses things? It's just a bunch of wires. Right?

You would think they would make one for every vehicle at $70 a pop.

 

Well this is what i don't get, if you can add a cd changer then there should be digital input into the headunit. Or else what other way can you get cd audio in from the changer?

this is what someone did on their audi. Have to rip my dash up to see what the pins are for the radio. Has anyone found the pinout for the stock non bose stereo?

 

The deal with the factory head unit is this:
It does control the add on 6 disc changer. It does not have a digital input. The digital audio signals are converted to analog signals in the changer and sent to the head unit via the bus interface.

However, you can't access the analog inputs on the bus cable or plug in the rear of the unit because they do not open up (become active) unless they see a signal from the changer. It is a specific digital signal that is encrypted into the bus system. You would need an emulator to create the signal, and the bus language is very complex.
I know that some company's may be working on this, but because of the compexity and the rather small sales opportunities, I would not expect to see this type of device available for the 350Z in the near future.

 

I finally got a chance to listen to a friend's system with the P.I.E. cable and I must say I wasn't very impressed.

It didn't sound like it was grounded because I heard a slight buzzing or humming sound.
