Default installed Focal Utopia165 speakers

whoa , these speakers sounds awesome. I had a pair of MB quarts QSD before. It sounded great on my Golf, but it was out of place in the 350z. No matter how i tuned it or the guy who installed my system. I am running 300/4 bridged. I even turned off the sub ( 350z JL stealth box with 500/1 amp) and the mid base on these thing are amazing. Everything were crisp clear. totally recommend them if u are out searching for new component speaker.

Nice speakers to have. I had the V2's in my old car, which stupidly I sold. Think I may another set or CDT components.

Mike,

Did you install this in the stock location using the one inch spacer?

I have these in mine as well powered by a Audison 4x300 amp and i agree the mid-bass from them is amazing. I have demoed it to one person with the sub off who actually thought I had a small 8" sub hidden away somewhere that was turned on.

Very very impressive speakers.

You may want to get the Pods and get them to sound even better.

Why would pods make them sound any better? If anything IMO they would probably sound a little worse as currently in the door they have a large fairly well sealed door to use where as if you put a pod attached to the door card on you loose that as the door card is far from air tight

the positioning of the speakers in the pods is better. also, the stock speaker grills block a lot of the sound coming out of the speakers... however, for the speaker grill problem there is a thread on here somewhere in which this problem has been resolved for CHEAP.

That would be right here:
https://my350z.com/forum/audio-video-and-electronics-diy/240044-write-up-my-solution-to-the-stock-sound-blocking-door-speaker-grills.html

Yeah, man, if you're running speakers like that under the stock grills, pull the grills and see how much better they sound without them, then if you're happy with the speakers in the stock location, give my grill solution a try; it really inproves SQ over the thick, muffling stockers.

You do not loose the door cavity with the pods at all... You will however gain imaging and have the speakers sound twice as good.

The pods that I have seen pictures do not angle the speakers that much - no more than could be attanded from a pod which is fixed to the door providing the best of both worlds (my speakers point up to the driver yet they sit behind the factory door cards)

Here are my V1's in Nazar's door pods in my 03 Z. The pods angle the speakers better and get rid of that huge plastic grill in the stock location.

I'm sure they sound pretty good and they look good too, but over $275 for some pods? DAMN! I'm cool with them behind the door.

You don't know until you try, and once you do there is no going back... Kind of like having the first potato chip out of the bag.

If you want your speakers to perform better this is the way to go. Just like you wanted a better performing car so you got AEM, and Seibon, Axis, Toyo and so on... Well this is jut a step up form what you already upgraded...

Try it you won't be sorry... Plus they are on special now... Call me.

^^^+1

in a car, often 90 percent of how a system can turn out comes down to labor and installation technique. you cna run the best speakers int he world IMO and if you stick them in the stock locations int he Z, it wouldnt sound that great...

door pods like this and kicks are one of the few only ways to do it right in the Z in my strongest opinion

the current utopia line will run you 2k around there if not more depending on model, not sure what kind of prices online but i certainly would buy such a high priced speaker without warranty protection
