Need help from a professional
What i want to do is wire the stock nav screen to a dvd player so i can watch moves. a place called nav-tv can do it but they will charge 1300-1700 installed i guess all they do is hard wire the nav lcd to the dvd player and just when u turn on the dvd player it overwrites the stock nav system, any input on any diagrams from a shop manual would be great thanks for the help guys!
Typhoon Electronics (aka video-nav.com) will have a DIY solution ready for Z owners very soon. I already have it in my Z, but they are refining install instructions, and modifying connections to make a truly plug and play solution. The install will incorporate a black box interface which will do the video switching/sync'ing, via a remote. The other portion of the system is a Pioneer GEX-P7000tv tuner, which gives you 2 seperate video inputs, and a tv tuner input, as long as you isntall the antennas. I have been using it for a week with my PS2 as a DVD source, and the instructions they provided me were great, very concise, and easy to follow. If you can wire a head unit, you can perform this install too. The most difficult part of the install is removing the Z's console, the connections are simple. I would guess that the install will take no more than 4 hours, this of course depends on how complex you decide to make it.
I think their solution will cost around $300-350 shipped for the black box interface and cables. You will be responsible for purchasing the Pioneer tuner/antenna/dvd source. The Pioneer tuner costs around $250-300, and most mobile dvd sources are around $150. This will be a more cost effective solution, and should not be as difficult to acquire as the nav-tv version. The video-nav Z version, will be avaialble for purchase by the general public, and not limited to installers only, I think.
I hope to be posting a thread as to how to geet these soon, and I am wiating to here back from the marketing department now. I mentioned a group buy, or reduced rate for the members of these forums, and they are considering it...look for an update or new post later this week, or early next week.
