Default for the heavy weights that want sound through their headunit

for those doing GPS or computers, and want to put sound directly into your headunit and NOT through a modulator or tape deck, Ive possibly found a solution. this may be a bose only setup, let me see... ok, the base unit does not have a second amp, so you gaurenteed you have an internal amp, thats fine, read on and youll see.

there are a few loose ends, and this is a RISKY install. first off, from the service manual, I know that the head unit plays out to a outside amp(which also passes it through to the sub amp) but the question is, the lines from the HU, are they line level, or is there a smaller amp inside the HU thats boosting them slightly?

I think it is the latter...

now this is the idea, you take a line level output from your computer, you OPEN up the headunit, and find the lines which carry line level output from the HU to the amp in the headunit, if you were to put the input from the computer into these wires, you would be playing computer audio straight through the stereo, including having the volume on the HU control the sound.

you could accomplish this any number of ways, easiest and more direct to unplug the wire from the hu sound and plug it in with the computer sound, not a bad way, but you then cant use the radio as a radio, tape player, or cd player, no sound will come out of it, you unplugged it...

the alternative, cut the wire between the radio and the amp, and put a switch inbetween, then wire the computer as the other option for the switch, flip the switch to choose what input you want to have. Id bet they even make a switch that will let you have them both if you wanted radio and GPS playing through it...

anyway, this seems like the most viable option to getting inputs into the stock unit. hope it made sense, if there is no small amp inside the headunit on bose models, you could do the exact same thing but to the wire between the headunit and the first amp, you just have to find the line level output and splice into that.
