Angry Rearview Mirror Rattling when sub hits!!!

I have a JL 10W7 in my trunk and when the sub hits...the rearview mirror rattles. At first it was just the trunk...so I dynamatted to help that out, but now the mirror is making noise too. I have the touring model, btw, which has the autodimming homelink mirror. Its a lot of noise and is becoming pretty unacceptable considering what I paid to get high quality bass. Does anyone else with a sub have this problem or would anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.

If your refering to the sub(which I would imagine you are) its in a custom box in the hatch. Its under the strut bar facing the rear of the vehicle. The bass is incredibly powerful but the mirror still makes some noise at lower volumes. If I grab the mirror and hold it tightly to lessen the vibrations then it stops. But other then that its highly annoying.

I have the same problem too. but mine is just two 8" fosgates. So yours must be worst since you have 10 inch. besides I thought that was just normal. NO?

btw: I can't scam on girls when my rearview mirror shakes.

I don't think its normal. I mean rattling in the car is definatly unavoidable with powerful woofers, but Ive never heard anyones mirrors rattle before. I think the reason it makes noise is cause its autodimming, so it probably has lots of components inside of it that can rattle. I was hoping that someone might have found a fix for this. The only think I could think of is to somehow take the mirror out an open it up and try to dynamat the inside or put foam in there. But I wouldn't have a clue as to how to do this and would probably just break stuff so I don't think i'll try.

I've seen one fall off in my friend's car. 6000 watts to two 12" subs. Pretty funny.

I had the same problem. Turned out it was the plastic cover over the wires behind the mirror. You might want to check it out.

Ok thanks, i'll do that. Does the cover just pop off or is there something special that you gotta do? I just dont' wanna end up breaking the mirror. I guess a noisy one is better then no mirror right?

The cover is actually two pieces, the bottom half slides into the top (you'll see what I mean when you take it out). The top and bottom just kind of clip on. Piece of cake to remove. Slide the top down along the glass and it will come out. I hope this makes some kind of sense. I put a piece of black electrical tape between the two pieces where they come together.

uh...what do you expect??

Your sub is so called "hitting" this causes vibration. vibration causes looseness. looseness causes rattles. soon other things in the car will follow.

Of course I expected things to rattle. Any car with as much bass as mine (or even half as much) will undoubtedly make some noise. I'm just trying to do the best I can of locking down the major rattles so that it sounds as good as possible.

The ones that crack me up are the ones that are driving thinking they are really cool and when they go by you their license pate and trunk lid are about to shake off and all you hear is the metal rattling.

This also can't be good for you internal organs, just like with your body tells you have gon too far when yu get hurt by giving you pain response, the car is trying to tell you you have gone too far.

Thats understandable, but trust me, once you pinpoint that one, another one will pop up. You might as well not worry about it, or turn the lows down. Its your thing...do what you want to do.
