So, Experiencing alternator noise, please advise
Alright,
After "BestBuy" installed my AMP/SUB I get an incredibly loud whistling noise, sounds like a turbo in my lap.
It seems to be coming from all of the speakers.
Should I, get all new speakers which I plan to do anyways and redo the wiring with better gauge?
Or? What are my other options, Will replacing all the speakers get rid of this?
I also think my stock sub is still going which makes it sound like crap, I think Best Buy did not know how to go about this. What should I tell them about this? Please let me know. Thanks.

ground noise can be traced to the following:
1. poor ground, either poor location or poor attachment or poor cabling
2. RCA cables run together with power cables
3. not so great amplifier
4. weak signal coming from headunit (say you have a headunit putting out less than 1volt of signal
)
in the dozen or more Zs i ahve done, i have never had a single one come out wtih any alternator noise, so it hink if you keep the above list from happening, you are good to go

But I dont get it, the speakers had no noise and they are still stock.
Best Buy just added an AMP and installed the sub. The AMP only runs the SUB, all the other stuff was left alone.
Why would there be that much alternator noise just after the install of the AMP powering the sub?

We'd need more details...
Which amp and sub did they add?
How are they getting the signal for the amp? Are they using speaker-level inputs for the amp? or are they using a device to tap speaker-wires and convert the signal to pre-amp?
Too many variables. Of course they need to fix it... But if they did not do it right...
Talk to a manager. Tell him about the problem and that you'd like it to be fixed.
If they can't fix it, take it to another shop. If the other shop fixes it, present Best-Buy with the repair bill. If they don't pay the bill, you can threaten small-claims. Don't mention small claims up front or you'll sour the relationship immediately.
This is an easy problem to solve. Get a ground loop isolator.

A couple companies sell them.

Should clean it up good. Just put it in line between your input signal and your amp.

Well when I talked to BestBuy after I heard this noise, they talked like it was not their fault.
I am wondering if its just destined to happen since the bose speakers are still in.
I guess I will talk to their manager to see if they can do anything about it.
