Default Opinions and help finding a nav-unit

I want to find a standalone nav unit i can install behind my drives seat in the cubby area. I want it to have a video out so i can hook it up to my 7" Fahrenheit display i have up under then nav cubby and use it with a remote. Are there any units that support this?

What your looking for could be done with a carpc.. but I haven't seen any standalone hideaway units with just a video out and a remote control

The Garmin GVN52 might be exactly what you are looking for.

This is a hideaway unit that will fit in the rear cubby behind the driver’s seat. The unit comes with RF wireless remote control (i.e., the remote doesn’t need to “see” the Garmin box so you can hide the GVN52 box).

You can look at the unit's specifications here:

The Farenheit In-Dash Car DVD/CD/MP3 Player/TV Tuner looks pretty cool. That should be a natural for your Farenheit screen. If you still have the original Z radio, you could replace that using a Metra bezel to mount a single DIN HU in one slot and the Farenheit DVD player in the other slot. And, you could still hook-up a hideaway navigation unit. You would only need to rig up some way of switching the display from the navigation unit to the DVD player.

The Alpine NVE-N852A Navigation unit (now replaced by a newer model NVE-N872A) you are looking at may not work with your Farenheit screen which is NTSC/PAL. The Alpine navigation unit is designed for a touch screen and connects to a hideaway touch control box using a RGB connector. Even if you are able to connect the Alpine navigation unit, I think the Garmin GVN52 might be a better choice. The Alpine is more expensive and it’s a DVD-based system. The Garmin uses a ROM chip (it has an SD slot to load and update maps and system functions) so there are no moving parts. That makes the Garmin more reliable and faster.
