Best Buy Worked After All...
Well, kinda...
I had them install a Basslink and a Sirius tuner/modulator thing to my factory Bose system.
I don't know how happy I am...
When I heard the Basslink in the store, it sounded freakin' awesome. In the car, it is okay. It is mounted face up under the strut bar. They said they moved it around and tried different positions and it actually sounded best there. Plus, there it takes up little usable space.
So, why am I not too happy? Becuase the sound of my other speakers now seems to have diminished greatly. I don't know what it is, but I used to somewhat like the Bose before the Basslink went in. Also, there is something odd going on:
When listening to normal radio or a CD, it can hear the highs from the Bose tweeters. However, when I turn on the Sirius thing, it is like audio quality has been cut in half. There are no crisp highs coming from anywhere.
I am picking up a signal in stereo transmission and my radio is set to receive the right station. I also got the signal booster thing installed as well, so a weak signal is not the problem. Argh!!!
I should have just bought a head unit that was Sirius ready, some Infinity door and rear speakers, and just done it right the first time. Damn...just...damn...

Hey Devildog, take the **** back and have them re-do it how you want it. Everything is still underwarantee, and they have to stand by their products.
Just go back and get the stuff you wanted in the first place.

i am sorry to say this, but you did seem to go against the advice of most members on this forum:
whcih was:
1. buy a headunit
2. do not have best buy install anything
honestly, interfacing wtih the bose steroe in the Z is not the easiest thing to do for an installer, there are a lot of variables. its not someting i would EVER trust a BB to do...but you did, and i honestly hope they didnt mangle anything else up int he process...
i am sorry if i come off as rude, but i get a little agitated when someone goes on a forum, seeks opinion, even though he arleady has his mind made up on things, and then we all give some useful inputs, but the next day he posts he went and did his own thing anyway and now hes not happy...
I really dont know we can help you at all...

p.s. hoesntly, i am not directing this against you in particular, but in my postive, whcih is mod, or sponsor, of various car forums's audio section, i get hit with this situation a LOT, i would say about 20 time a week between the various forums...
i try my best to give honest opinions whcih i htink comes from experience and knowledge, but it gets to me sometimes to see the same thing happen over and over again ...
cheerio!

I had a fellow television engineer that when three rounds with BestBuy before they got his satellite radio fixed. It ended up being a firmware upgrade to get it to sound better. You're never going to get satellite services to sound like a CD or HDradio or even old FM with a good signal.

I used a hard wired FM modulator in my Xterra to listen to XM, its only temporary until I can get another Avic Z1(Z2?). Unless you have an Aux in, no matter how you hook it up... its gonna sound like your listening through a sock.
Satellite radio preferred connections in order
Of course the best way to listen to Satellite is to buy a headunit that is sat ready so its all internal, but I think you've already come to that conclusion
Satellite radio preferred connections in order
- Use an Auxiliary input on an aftermarket headunit
- PAC Audio adapter to give your OEM headunit an AUX in
- Hard wired FM modulator
- Cassette adapter (Who has a cassette deck anymore?)
- Fm modulation (Since the FCC crackdown, the portable sat units put out a fraction of the signal they used to)

I installed a Sirius unit on my Z in 2003. This was the unit from Sirius that broadcasts to an FM station setting on my H/U. It was so bad I thought “they must be kidding.” I didn’t give up on it though. I swapped my stock radio for a Clarion DXZ745MP (satellite ready) and added the direct Sirius receiver-box. The sound-quality improved dramatically (it was a huge improvement) but still not as good as terrestrial radio (normal FM), and actually not even as good as CD quality.
I suspect this is a bandwidth issue. I say this because Howard Stern’s and The Playboy Channel’s feeds on Sirius sound much better than does CNN or Fox News. Stern demanded (of course) more bandwidth, and you hear the difference. I’ve listened to XM, and it is no better. Since bandwidth is a big issue (it’s a compromise between the number of stations and the quality of the broadcast), my vote is for more bandwidth (to provide better sound quality) and less channels. I have a small personal stake here because I am a shareholder (Sirius stock).
I have not had much opportunity to listen to HD terrestrial radio, but it sure sounds great during the couple of times I listened. --Spike
Okay, well, I found out what the problem was and things sound better.
The damn speaker wasn't tuned too well. I fiddled with the settings and the sub sounds better. And, as far as the XM goes, I found that some stations just sound better with others. On the drive home last night, I just listened to crappy stations. Seems the older music was probably dubbed from non-digital sources, so, well, the audio quality is not too good. But, the good stations ROCK!
Did I not listen to most -- yes. I seek opinions, and advice. Hell, God advises a lot of things and don't we even go against what he says.
To make a long story short, I am going with a head unit and I am going to a reputable, custom installer to have the rest of my stuff done. I went today and got a price, and it seems that it is actually cheaper than BB and they don't charge more/less whether you buy at their shop or not. The shop has been in business long than I've been driving (14 years) and I know they do good work. They enter many shows, etc., etc...
So, looks like I'll order my speakers from Crutchfield. Probably Infinity; I'll just have to find what fits up front and in the rear. For the head unit, it'll probably be Pioneer Premier. Amp will be a 4-channel Sony Xplode that I have on hand. If it dies, it can be replaced later. They said $250-$350 just depending on what they run into.
Gonna browse around on here for fitment and things that won't break the bank. Want something good, but not expensive... Catch my drift? Any advice would be great, but since I'm often times a stubborn *** who rarely listens anyway, I understand if none is offered up.
Thanks folks!
