rca is not 480p.

RCA and Svideo are Low Low resolution.

Progressive Scan on your Dvd player hookedup with component cables is 480p.

Component cables can do 480p, 720p, or 1080i,

Hdmi cables can do 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p

Just went and got an HDMI cable with some Audio Cables to match.

When the input on the TV is set to RCA, it says 480p.

Now that I have the HDMI connection the TV says 1080i.

Regardless of the previous mentioned, the HDMI is looking much better!!!

Should I go with a fiber-optic cable?

Disconnection the RCA input now.

Thanks for the hekp, standing by.

P.S....

It looks like I can run one HDMI cord from the DVD to the TUNER/AMP, then a seperate HDMI cord from the Tuner to the TV.

Right now I have... the HDMI cord from the DVD directly to the TV.

I think you are calling component video cables RCA. They look like RCA, and they too, are analog, but they carry three distinct color frequencies over individual dedicated cables. They do not carry any audio. RCAs are called composite cables. They are incapable of carrying progressive signal (the p in 480p).

If you have a tuner capable of sending video after rendering the audio stream from HDMI connection than you can send HDMI from DVD to tuner and onto the TV.

The signal you're getting from the RCA is probably 480i or 540i and is being upgraded by an internal scalar in your tv... Regardless, the HDMI connection is the way to go.
One note, if you hookup a digital optical cable to your receiver from the DVD you're going to get the same audio. The only way the HDMI would improve the audio would be if you have a DVD/ HDDVD/ Bluray player capable of rendering a HD audio, or linear 7.1 PCM audio track. Odds are you're using a 5.1 signal which optical can easily accomodate.

I went with this...

HDMI "cord" from DVD to Tuner to TV. A lot cleaner and simpler. Wish I would have known about it sooner, but hey, it's all good now.

Thanks guys. I don't think the Fiber Optical will work...

My DVD has a Fiber out, and my Tuner has two Fiber in, and my TV only has a fiber out.

Any way I'm happy with 1080i in stead of RCA upgraded internally to 480p.

Now I have to watch all my movies over again, ahh shucks!

Now the progressive scan actually works. HAHA!

Glad to hear you're loving it. There's nothing like a solid Home Theatre setup.

Your posts are somewhat cryptic, but if I deciphered the above correctly, you do not believe your DVD player's optical digital audio output (since you mentioned "fiber optics") can be plugged into the receiver even though it does accept OD inputs?

It can. You do not need it though since HDMI carries both audio and video. Good to know you're all set.
