I removed mine to improve the soundstage from the fronts, as have several other people. If you want to put something back there, you could seal the holes in the enclosures and fill the speaker mounts with JL 6W0 mini subs. Otherwise, to answer your question, there is enough mounting depth to put anything back there.

I would suggest eliminating the rear speakers altogether and invest the extra $$$ towards better components for the front. With well installed quality front components, you will not miss the rears at all.

Especially since the Z is a 2 passenger car. There is absolutely no need for rears unless you are going for a 5.1 channel surround. I had my Xterra with just front speakers and the only people to complain were rear seat passengers, which was rare anyway.

i am definitely going to be the minority here but i must say that i had components only in the front and i wasn't satisfied. i purchased a jl 300/4 and put some infinity coaxils in the back and the sound is sooooo much better. its like i'm surrounded by music....1000 times better. but this is just my opinion. good luck!

Not just your opinion my friend. I put the CDT ES600 in the back and just ever so slightly turn them up justfor rear fill and it makes it sound ALOT FULLER without ruining the forward soundstage!

I have some old school components the Kicker RS6. I have them in the front and the back...they work great. the tweeter in the rear are screwed into the center of the woffer with the crossovers mounted in the extra space. I hav e the same RS6 in the front with the tweeters in the stock location. They sound great to me. I have the Eclipse AVN5435 and with that unti you can focus the sound on the front zone area. IMO you can go either way. I also have the JL 300/4 pushing them. They will soud great with just the front pair (go with focals or JL) or you can save a little and just use the stock rears....it's completely up to you...

I've got a set of cdt cl-6ex for the rears, and cdt hd62's up front, not installed yet though, but alot of people here prefer not to run anything in the rear, but i personally like a little bit of rear fill,so i'm gonna power all these with a jl 450/4,I would do a lil more research first before you pick a set of speakers or even if you decide not to run any because really it all comes down to personal preference

no rear speakers! Invest in kick panels and good comps for the front with 100-200 watts

Another +1 to that. I think like most things, it all comes down to personal preference. To my ears, car audio without the rear fill sounds incomplete and lacklusture, regardless of how good the front stage might be.
