Default Xbox Install Help?

hi,

Okay ive installed an Xbox1(original) in my car. its behind the passanger seat in the glove box back there.

For those of you that have an Xbox install? How do you extend the CD rom out of the xbox and into a more convient place. I have had minimal luck doing this.

I have come to the conclusion that i think i need to mod the xbox with a mod chip so that i can change the boot up sequence. If i do that then i can switch the harddrive and DVD drive on the IDE cable locations.

Thus making the harddrive mount to the IDE cable at the slave location

and the Dvd Rom drive mount at the end of the IDE cable at the master location.

That would give me the length i need to mount the dvd rom where i want.

Am i correct on this?

my current xbox does not have any mod chip at all. and i wasnt planning on getting one yet, since i mainly want the install now for movies while on trips. but i did plan on modding it in the near future.

any help is appreciated.

okay, i think i got it figured out...i contacted a guy named jack lee who owns the gaming company shop for me dot com. he was able to test a modded xbox and sure enough with the xbox modded with EVOX mod on it you can switch the dvd rom drive and hard drive and use a long 36 inch ide cable and it works!!!

he will take my xbox and modify it for in car set up like im wanting for a resonable fee.

I already have my xbox wires extended for incar use. I have the power and eject button on the face of the xbox extended to mount in my center dash along with one of the controller ports extended to mount the infared eye for playing DVD's.

So he will install mod chip and software along with a long list of games/emulators and he has the choice for 160 gig or 300 gig harddrive options.

if anyone wants his direct number pm me and i can get you that.

Jay,

regarding modding the xbox1,you could do it for free using a softmod. theres some extra steps that need to be done in order to switch out the hdd drive, but you still get all the features of a hardmod. in any case, this mightnotbe for you , or its best that you concentrate on the car stuff and leave the xboxdetails to someone else. hope you didntpay too much.

second, since the xbox is behind you, im sure youve thought about how you are going to turn the xbox on/off. take a look my cardomain page to see how i solved that issue. as well as the controller issue in order to actually use the xbox(i used logitech wireless, radio freq not infra-red, to do this)

good luck on the install. a modded xbox is better/cheaper than any carPC anyone could build. AND it plays games too! hehe

+1 on the softmod. Costs 20 bucks for a memcard with usb hookup and 5-10 for the used game needed. So for no more than 35 bucks you can do it if you are savvy enough. If you don't know much about computers in general it may be a bit overwhelming though. Not sure on the switching of boot order on a softmod though. I'll look when I get home later today.
