Default Replacing 2005 OEM Bose HU with 2006 OEM Bose HU?.

I just recieved my 2006 HU with MP3 and want to know if anyone has done this.

First thing I noticed was the 2006 has rounder corners than the 2005.

Update --> Wont work. New HU is 1/4 inch wider than old.

I highly doubt someone has tried to replace a crappy headunit with the same crappy headunit that doesn't fit. GL trying to make that work

(....patiently wondering what inspired you to try this)

biggest problem is fitment. if the buttons align all the same, its possible you could just take the plastic cover off the 2005 HU and slap it on the 2006.

Good idea. but Nope 2005 has tape deck 2006 doesnt. Many other differences also.

The only problem I see is its gonna have round edges instead of square edges.
If I am lucky, it wont be to noticeable. Ill post pics when I and If I get it in.

If it looks bad I will just reinstall the old headunit.

Thanks

I'm sure you could get it to work with a little ginding and sanding here and there.

Maybe you can also try replacing the entire middle console...with the newer one as well

Nucleus, no offense, but I recall discussing this way back in fall of '05 when the '06s first started hitting the showrooms and we all started seeing the upgrades. Had you looked into that swap on these forums prior to buying the stereo, we would have told you that it cannot be done without either a custom mount or an '06 center dash trim to match the '06 HU.

'06 was the year of the interior refresh. Many trim pieces were redesigned and new touches were added. Since every OEM HU is meant to integrate with the interior of the car it is in, a new HU with a new interior shouldn't come as a surprise.

Have you looked into trying to get that entire center piece? I was thinking of doing the same thing in my 2003
