Default Face Plate won't open...Need ideas

I installed a Pioneer 8600mp a few days ago, and everything worked fine on in till today the motorized faceplate will not go down. It makes a little electronic noise when you hit the open button, so I am assuming the faceplate is stuck. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this without breaking it?

I would say take it back where you bought it. If you are having problems this soon after the install, only bad things can come. I would say the mechanism is jammed or broke. Without seeing the problem first hand, I would say tearing it apart would be the only way to fix it.

Has the headunit somehow shifted? Have you checked to make sure the faceplate is not rubbing against the din kit?

I agree with him, I think Alpine is the way to go. Good luck finding the problem, and keep us informed.

I bought it used off Ebay, I would of bought a new one but they don't make the 8600mp anymore and I really like the graphics and the equalizer.

This makes me smile. Not in a mean way though.

I had the same problem and so did my cousin and numerous others. I researched it on ebay and this guy was selling a way to fix it. Bot the hardware, but just a way to fix it. It was only $11 so i bought it. It was a lonk to somewhere within pioneer's website to buy the ribbon. It worked. I feel like a foo. But it worked.

I definitely recommend against buying used electronics.

Other than that, you can try either pulling the master power plug to the back of the unit for a minute and seeing if that will reset the unit OR taking the headunit out and having Pioneer take a peek at it.
